Terry Wier’s book is comprehensive. Perhaps that’s why one cannot find any other title by him in the 16 years since this was published; he said what he needed to say in this book. After reading material promoting the book as offering God's plan for sex, one reviewer wrote, “I thought the book was about a passionate, uplifting, holy sexual union between a husband and wife.” I thought that comment was very curious since that’s exactly what I thought the book did.The author gives the reader so many things to think about. Some of it won’t apply to everyone and things are discussed that most of us do not care to think about. But it is still important that the Christian know what’s “out there” in terms of deviant sexuality.Things that I learned include the origin of the winding of the maypole. I participated in that in school myself and never dreamed that the maypole was initially a phallic symbol. I was aware that the culture had changed drastically to the point that today’s youth are encouraged to postpone marriage until college is finished and careers are established. But I had never heard such a strong argument against this practice. The author rejects the idea of a “teenage” stage, suggesting instead that young people need and want to be treated as adults from around the age of 12. They learn mostly negative things being around only people their age, but have no choice because adults reject their involvement in their own lives. Young people need to see mature adult behavior modeled as much as possible. The lack of this modeling is evident in behaviors from mailbox vandalizing to drive-by shootings. If the youngsters were “apprenticed” to godly adults during their developing years, they wouldn’t have time to allow their minds to come up with such criminal acts.
