The book is cute. The child's anxieties are answered and some of the answers are good. As I think about my grandchildren I would be hesitant to use it with a child who has real anxiety. The refrain to each objection raised is, "That's silly." That feels to me like it invalidates the child's feelings. I will probably delete this book. Glad it was free so I didn't spend money on it. I can imagine reading it with my second grade grandchild who would see the entire book as silly and would read it that way. So, I guess it depends upon the child.
My son really enjoyed it. I however did not. When the child in the story expresses a concern the parent responds with "That's silly" every time. It just seemed like they were making light of a child being nervous about school. The concept was a cute one. We have read it more than once because my child enjoyed it.
This ebook made my niece giggle a few times. She really enjoyed the pictures. They are colorful and fun. The excuses he comes up with to not go to school are pretty wacky and silly. But the mom explains why they are silly and gives him encouragement. She plays along with him and listens to his excuses. That is a patient mom. You can tell he is just toying with the mom because the excuses are really out there. For example he says the teacher might be a monster with 7 arms.So it is a cute and fun quick read. My niece didn't care for reading it twice though. It is a read once and delete kind of thing.I got this ebook when it was a free kindle edition ebook download here on .
I Don't Want to Go to School is about a little boy named Joey and he voices all his fears about going to school and his mom puts his fears to rest with logical reassurance. The illustrations are darling with the large over sized eyes and showing all the things Joey imagins. It is a great book to start the school year with either at home or at school to start a discussion of small children's fears and concerns about school.
This is a bit late for the school season, but nonetheless a worthy read for the future for children newly going to school, or moving to start at a new school. The drawings are hilarious and the text is handwritten on lined paper. The young kid;s eyes are bugging out in fear of going to school. I can relate. The kid is a nervous nellie, concerned about the school bus (what if it hits a moose?!). What if they run out of chairs? What if the teacher's a monster? Well that's an inescapable hazard you'll have to live with, kid! That's not what this books says, don't worry! Mom has a calming answer to every fear and eventually, she makes her case and wins the day! I recommend this one for any school start.Review originally appeared at Ian Wood's Novellum.
Children are often nervous about the beginning of school. This story answers the questions that frequently run through the children's head. This funny story, will have children laughing as well as preparing them for the first day of school. The illustrations are bright which will keep the child's attention as they read the story. Parents and children will enjoy this book as they read and prepare them for their first day of school.
My 7 year old grandson loved this very funny book. He gave it 5 stars ( and I totally agree) because it really made him laugh. The young boy is afraid of everything imaginable on the first day of school but they are so funny. The illustrations are very colorful and eye catching. Wonderful book for those kids anxious about school.
This just wasn't interesting. I love reading to my grandchildren, and they love stories; but my 4 year old grand daughter stopped me and said, "stop, I don't like it." Just personal preference. I'm sure someone else would love it.
