The Perrotta "Six Weeks" titles have been a Godsend for Scripture study groups and individuals' self-directed study. As of July 2013, Loyola Press has dozens of these titles, some in Spanish. Each is designed as a "guided discovery." That is, each acts as "a friendly park ranger who points out noteworthy details and explains what you are looking at." But also there are questions to challenge your understanding and application to integrate the discovery.The booklet contains the sections of Scripture under consideration for each of the six weeks--the translation used is the New Revised Standard Version-Catholic Edition. However, having several Bibles (in various translations) available would be very useful for context.While the study material is approached from a Catholic perspective (each booklet has an imprimatur), modern mainstream Christian scholarship is the basis. Books by well-known authors such as von Rad, Westermann, Vawter, and Brueggemann are recommended for further discernment.Having personally used several of these titles in groups that I have facilitated, I can recommend them without reservation.
