25 Years Of Pickles
Ebooks Online

Getting old is not for sissies. But as Brian Crane’s crotchety but endearing seniors Earl and Opal Pickles do it, it can be humorous and often touching. For over twenty-five years, Crane’s comic strip, Pickles, has been delighting readers around the world. This seventh collection continues the adventures of grandparents Earl and Opal; their precocious grandson, Nelson; quirky family members and friends; and the family’s dog and cat, who offer their own distinctive views of the goings-on. Crane’s view of the foibles of a long-married, often cantankerous couple and their extended family and friends is wry, honest, and always warm-hearted.

First of all, I have to tell you that "Pickles" has been my favorite comic strip for years. I have bought all of the previous anthologies and enjoyed them all. I especially looked forward to this one as a "collector's item." But I was deeply disappointed in this book. For example, a series of the daily strips sets up a story where the daughter and child are in imminent danger of a bear attack. But then it STOPS, without including the panels that resolve the conflict. Toward the end of the book, a number of the daily strips are REPEATED! Maybe the editors needed to fill extra pages and thought we wouldn't notice. I did. And I regret having spent my money on such a sloppily edited product. Cartoonist Brian Crane deserved more..And so did I.

Pickles is one of my favorite cartoons. I find that I am a lot like Earl. This collection is loaded with laughs and is, in my opinion, worth buying. The only caveat is that there are about a half-dozen duplicate cartoons in the last part of the book. Not a big deal, but disappointing.

Up until the last dozen pages or so, this is a wonderful collection of the Pickles cartoons. However, toward the end, the cartoon strips begin repeating, first just one repeat in a page of new strips, then multiple strips on other pages, and finally an entire page and a half at the very end. This is very disappointing. Maybe I received a copy that went through the printer too soon and was later recalled and reprinted, or maybe it just wasn't edited very well in the rush to publication.

Very funny and warmhearted (but never sappy) comic strip. This collection is the second in the series and I'm anxiously awaiting more!

I like Pickles BUT.....I really dislike badly edited books, especially with all the repeats at the end. I believe needs to clear this matter up. There is a discrepancy between the number of pages listed here (135) as being in the book and the actual number of pages in the copy I received (152+).If is getting a shoddy first printing and there is going to be a corrected printing later, then I would like to have the corrected copy.

This is one of the funniest comics in a long time. I'm a big fan of Peanuts and Garfield, but Pickles is also a hard-core winner. Based on the fact, I can never find these books anywhere except makes me feel that other people love it just as much. The story behind the comic is an older couple, Earl and Pearl. (Yes, that's their names). They have a dog whom is part of the hysterical nature. A lot of the comic is about the struggle of the elderly learning how to deal with being older. They have a daughter and a grandson that also are prominent in the comic. The daughter tries to get her parents into the new technologies of the age.The grandson idolizes his grandfather and always listens to him. Usually, he shouldn't though. It ends in an endless fit of giggles for me.This is a great book for anyone who loves a good fashioned giggle.

Oh my, this has been so fun to read! It has some of the comics from each year, and comments from the author, Brian Crane. I didn't know how long I had been reading Pickles in my newspaper, but I recognized some from 20 years ago, so I guess I've been a fan for a long time! This collection has made me laugh and laugh! Good times!

This is the first Pickles book I have ever read. Very realistic and very funny. I especially love the cat and dog an their antics. However, not a well edited book which kind of takes away from the book itself.
