This wonderful surprise of a series continues from the cliffhanger ending of The Ancient Magus' Bride Vol 1, which left Chise with a knife to her throat at the hands of the apprentice, Alice, of Elias' old alchemist foe, Renfred. They tell her some things Elias had failed to mention about the price of being a sleigh beggy, of value because she can absorb and generate almost unlimited magical energy.
