I love this book so much. There is something about having an islamic twist on classical tales that I just find beautiful—it is the perfect mixture of finding religion through culture. This specific story I liked better than Cinderella (although I do recommend both!!!!) just because of the creative way in which the author infused certain principles! I do hope that in the next books she write, that Gilani can try to incorporate non-hijabi but also islamic characters, not even as main characters! Actually, it would be fun to see all different types of Muslims! But ahah alhumdulillah the book itself is amazing, and I highly commend the author. I would love to be able to read the next novels iA!
I found this book at our local library. It's great!!! Snow White has a stepmother who has a magic jinn (instead of mirror) , there are seven dwarf sisters in hijab (instead of the old dudes) and instead of a poison apple, there are poisoned dates, and instead of a random prince who kisses her in her coffin, there is a prince who recites Surah Fatiha and then gets his Queen mother to care for her and then the mother asks Snow White to marry her son. It's really sweet and full of lovely pictures and references to the Quran ! I'm going to buy it from !!
I was looking for an alternative to the Disney version of fairy tales and this was perfect. Teaches my son how to be respectful towards women, and teaches my daughter that she is not just a pretty face....all while instilling strong moral values that are essential to Islam.
Son loves this book. The illustrations are very beautifully drawn and the colors are eye-catching. I enjoy the theme and new perspective on the classic story. I hope this author writes many more to come.
