Laura Bower answers an ad from Bartholomew Corrigan in Linden Creek. Little does she know that good old Bart is a disgusting drunk. He hits her and she fall and hurts her arm and ankle. She gets awAy from him and hides in a shed to get out of the rain. Virgil Green finds her and carries her to his career in and takes care of her wounds. This is a good read be cause Virgil is a huge bear of a man and she hears two men say he is a murderer. You will enjoy this story.
I have read many of Susannah Calloway books and I've enjoyed each of them. I really enjoy the novella formate as I don't have a lot of reading time. The Rejected Governess Finds a Groom made me think it might be a Regency book, which I also enjoy. I wanted to read a western romance and I was pleased that was what this book was. Go ahead and buy it and have an hour of enjoyment in a different era.
I enjoyed reading this short novella. Heroine is tricked into becoming mail order bride of an abusive man. She fights to be free of him and finds herself traumatized by the experience. Luckily she fell into the right hands. The hero was such treat. The H/h had great chemistry together. Heroine was stubborn but hero was patient and caring. They both had issues but the author did good job of letting us see how it affected them both. For short novella, that ends little over 60%, the characters were very well rounded. Thought H/h were perfect for each other. Clean read. Description of violence towards heroine. No epilogue but do get nice ending.
