I use this book in a Bible study through a Calvary Chapel. This book is really great. The questions provoke you to dig deeper into the text than you normally would. There are explanation portions that give you historical context, customs, grammer, and the like, all to help explain what a passage means. In addition to helping you get "Bible smart", the book also provokes questions that really make you reflect and search your heart to draw you closer to Jesus.
My bible study is currently working their way through this amazing little book. I am already in awe of the impact it has had - the lessons learned, the in depth studies, the conversations started. I would definitely recommend this study of the book of John because it delves deep into the book, it asks pertinent and thought provoking questions, it brings John to a level where it personally effects your life and your actions. I hope to use other books in this series in order to better understand and look with clarity and purpose at the Bible. If you are looking for a guide to the book of John, this is it!
Very good. I'm a bit of a purist, wanting to stick to the Bible as one's study guide. However, if you are trying to teach future teachers, this is a good text to help aid new student / teachers into the role of group facilitator. Other books - even John MacArthur - have the view that regardless of the study or length of the Bible book, after one quarter or about thirteen lessons, you're done. Example: In MacArthur's book, he crammed Romans Chapters 9, 10, and 11 into one lesson. We wound up abandoning the MacArthur text for most of the Romans study. You could have spent one year there alone.Has not happened with the John study using this text. The group generally likes it and uses it.
The Life Change Series from the Navigators is excellent. It is used by most denominations and independent churches alike. I have led studies and done studies with other of their books and they are consistently challenging for beginners and experienced learners alike. The current bible study group I am with loves it and has in it both newbies and experienced. The books give you background information on the times and culture to make it more understandable along with definitions of certain words and phrases thus saving a beginner from trying to find a library of helps. I will stick to the Life Change Series.
Navigators is faithful to provide questions that help you dig. the questions are shovels--digging in; not just rakes, scraping the surface. This is a delight yourself in the Word of God study.A great study of the book of John if you want to hear more from Scripture than the author!Formatting could be updated for more visual space and larger type. Some editing would be helpful--bullet point directives.
This LifeChange Navigators guide is wonderful, gives excellent foundation for the book of John, and is a great way to go through group Bible study. This is about the 8th or 9th one in this series that our 2 men's Bible studies have gone through. The whole series is exceptionally well done, non-denominational, and highly valuable.
Life Change series are solid, well thought out bible study books that are great for both personal and group study. Gives enough background information to help you dig a bit deeper, and also provides solid references for each lesson for those who want to research further. Insightful questions that challenge you to integrate and apply knowledge to life.
This study has been quite challenging, but in a good way. It is purely a study of God's Word, no bells or whistles, but does contain very helpful study skills to teach you how to study any book of the Bible without the use of an aid other than your Bible. I highly recommend these studies.
