First things first - This 176 page hardcover collects all six issues of the original Harry Dresden story "Down Town". It also includes alternate cover art and a lot of original rough line art sketches. While there are six individual comics that run about 30 pages each, that are available from third party sellers, this is the only complete collection.The first collection of Dresden comic book issues that I read was the original story "Ghoul Goblin". As here, that was co-authored by Mark Powers, but it was illustrated by Joseph Cooper . I thought that "Ghoul Goblin" was top drawer Butcher, very nicely translated into the graphic novel form, and very well adapted to that medium. The second graphic collection I know of is "War Cry", co-authored by Mark Powers but illustrated by Carlos Gomez. Liked that as well. This is now the third collection of an original comics story arc, again co-authored by Mark Powers, and again illustrated by Carlos Gomez. So, that said, how do we feel about this new effort?"Ghoul Goblin" was twisty and surprising with a lot of layers and sneaky plot reversals. "War Cry" was more of a straight up actioner. "Down Town" sits somewhere in the middle. The story arc has some changeups and twisty angles, but is still heavy on the action. I was happy with the balance. This one is placed firmly in an urban, underground setting, and, hey, once you go subterranean I'm with you. It's a little repetitive in places, and the adventure loses focus once or twice, but the overall feel is solid Dresden.I like Butcher's Harry Dresden, and I particularly like the way the Dresden stories are presented in Butcher's published fiction.
