It's hard to beat N.T. Wright for accessible commentary. He often begins the section with an anecdote or personal story to invite the reader into the setting. Scholarship is strong, but not overwhelming for a lay reader. Highly recommended.
Our Bible Study has enjoyed other " Everyone Bible Study Guides" by N.T, Wright, This is no exception. His scholarship combines with clear insights that make the material come alive. Even long time searchers will find freash insights .He initiates thinking and conversation.
St. Paul's letter to the Romans is a difficult letter to understand and apply to one's life. N. T. Wright, in his slim book on Romans, presents passages with clarity and thought. The questions he poses draw you into reading Romans in new light, after which, the meditation helps you incorportate the passage into your own life. This is an excellent book for study, meditation as well as understanding.
This is a helpful study guide for Romans, which I used for personal study over a couple of months. Like any study guide, it requires personal discipline to think through the answers to the questions. The guide consists primarily of questions, which makes it more useful for small group study than personal study.
This is not a Bible Study - it is a short thought followed by a bunch of questions. Good questions, but not really helpful if you want to lead a class. Hard to believe the normally verbose Bishop Wright put this out. (Why say something is one sentence when 20 will do?) But not here. Almost useless.
I have always appreciated N.T. Wright's perspectives on the Bible and have used many of his resources in preparing for Bible classes and sermons. This book is geared toward group discussion and though insightful as always, does tend to be a bit more academic than relatable. I reworded many of the questions and included some of my own to get more personal application out of the classes. Overall, it was a great tool for group discussion prep and I would recommend it.
MY GRANDDAUGHTER AND I HAVE BEEN STUDYING ROMANS SLOWLY ONE HOUR OR SO,TWO DAYS PER CHAPTER TO BE ABLE TO SHARE THOUGHTS, QUESTIONS, AND LEARNING GROWTH. SHE JUST CAME BACK TO THE LORD, AND IS A COLLEGE STUDENT, SHE LOVES THE LEVEL OF DEPTH AND GREAT INSIGHT N.T. WRIGHT BRINGS INTO THE STUDY. I AM SO BLESSED TO BE ABLE TO SHARE WITH MY NEXT GENERATION THE WORD OF GOD. WE BOTH ARE ENRICHED BY THE STUDY GUIDE! THANK YOU.
My bible study group and I were excited to read all the great reviews and get the recommendation from our pastoral staff for N.T. Wright's series. We were looking forward to really digging into Romans, its origins and an in depth analysis with new insights into the material. Instead, we found questions that didn't resonate and no insights or critical analysis. We abandoned the book at about chapter 8 and instead just started using our different bibles' commentaries. Much happier now.
