I bought this to share with my pirate crew, to ensure that they would score better in their performance reviews at the end of the year. I was looking for some guidance for them with would still allow us to have fun on (frankly some of them do no have a clue what they are doing). Most of the crew were receptive, but a number of comments indicate that the book has not come to terms with the large numbers of female pirates now roaming the high seas. I think there should be more role models for female pirates, apart from Keira Knightly.

I have three boys (all 5 and under) and they love this book. They like finding the turtle, the monkey, and the clumsy pirate on all the pages. Even when my wife and I aren't around to read to them they enjoy looking at the pictures and making up their own story about what is happening.

This book is interesting and funny to my 7 year old grandson. I liked that it was multicultural and included women pirates. The book served as a springboard of ideas to enrich pirate pretend play. We used it all summer to plan adventures.

My 4 year old son loves this book and looks at it by himself a lot. He is way into pirates though so that is part of the reason. We also have the Castle version and he likes that one also. They are much like "I Spy" type books. Even my 2 year old likes them.

These are such cool books. I'm not sure if my kids or I like these books more! The illustrations are great and have so many fun things to find. We're planning to buy a bunch more of the A Year of_____ books. Highly recommend.

Hours of fun with my five-year-old. We must have read it dozens of times last year, and he still gets it out to read it, look for all the funny bits in the pictures...a great entry in the 'A Year on/in...' series.

A good read for little pirates. My son is interested in piracy as his ancestors had to defend Nova Scotia from them as well as his Japanese ancestors had to fight off pirates from Korea and China! It's a bit cheesy, but then again, it's designed for children. I had gotten him A Year in a Castle, so he was happy to get this one.

absolutely loved it. takes us on a wonderful voyage. 5 yr old couldnt put the book down even though he couldnt read through it. he made us read it so many times..
