This is leather bound and scaled down version of the Book of Common Worship that is commonly used in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and other Reformed Tradition Churches. Its compact size makes it easy to use in a variety of settings and it slips easily into a suit pocket or purse.The Pastoral version provides the liturgy necessary to conduct the Sacraments of The Lord's Supper and Baptism in settings outside of Sunday worship. This is very helpful to this pastor for sharing The Lord's Supper with parishioners in their homes or in the hospital.Also included are the liturgies for Christian Marriage, Pastoral Care and the Witness to the Resurrection (i.e. the Funeral).This book has proved itself helpful in working with families, because the liturgies are right there for planning purposes and this small leather bound book is much less bulky to carry and use than the hard cover version. Appropriate scripture passages and suggested liturgies are in one place for planning and use.What I have found most helpful is the variety of prayers at the back of the book. I take this book with me on most of my pastoral visits. It also makes a great Ordination gift.
I have begun collecting liturgical materials from Protestant denominations. This is a beautiful book, meant to be used all week by the Pastor.I used a prayer of confession from it a couple of weeks ago and it seemed well received. Something different in our faith tradition.
This is a great resource for PC(USA) pastors going into field education, or ministry. The book provides prayers and services for many situations including Baptism, Death, Healing, Weddings, or just various general situations.
The Book of Common Worship - Pastoral Edition is one of my favourite tools for ministry. I love the fact that it has full orders of service as well as many selections of scriptures passages and prayers. It is wonderful to bring on visits to the hospital. I also like to use it at funerals and Communion Services. It's small size is handy to just place in my purse and take anywhere. Well worth the price.
This pocket version is very handy and useful to the preacher or caregiver. It contains in a well organized layout the liturgy for a variety of "special" services, including Baptism, Marriage, Memorials/Funerals and special services for the sick, the dying as well as a variety of prayers appropriate for specific congregational use. The use of red contrasting print for presentation notes is very helpful. It is commended for use by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. All this and a great price, too.
Was a gift for an ordination service. My friend was well pleased and will use it in his ministry. Book was packed well and came quicker than expected.
I thoroughly appreciate this smaller, more attractive format for conducting services. Worth the investment.
The cover is not as durable as the one I purchased 15 years ago. The book works fine and is usable, but I was surprised at the difference in quality.
