Denen's character development was some of the best I've read in a new SciFi/Fantasy series. I can't think of a time while reading this book, that I was bored or wanted to skip a part. There's some intriguing themes throughout this book, mainly good vs. evil. The violent scenes are there for a reason, not just to throw in little battle scenes to add to the action (although there are a few battles waged, they're not overly gruesome). Thanks for writing a fine tale!
I wanted so much to give this book five stars. It has been a while since I've read a book like this that I couldn't put down. The peril felt real, the cause of the protagonists was relatable. I liked the characters and the light-hearted banter. The characters and conflict were introduced at a pace that made it easy to follow the book and remember the roles each played in the overall plot. I enjoyed it immensely and I wish only two things.1) The author chose to make the evil just a bit too graphic. I did not need the very adult-themed, perverse descriptions of the evil in order for me to be engaged in the story. It was not prevalent or even R-rated, but too disturbing for me.2) Not quite spoiler, but close: the "hero" was too violent, too vengeful. I know that was part of the journey he was taking, but it was odd for the Maker to endorse such brutality even in the battle against evil. Out and out slaughtering of soldiers only following orders, trapped in their circumstance? Somehow it was just...wrong...inconsistent with the rest of the book. Also I don't enjoy those kinds of graphic, bloody descriptions. Too much for me.Overall I enjoyed the book, but I am reluctant to read the next one if the dark, graphic descriptions are the same as this book.
I liked the characters and came to care about them quickly. I read this story in one day. I could not put it down. I really liked how the characters handled their moral dilemmas. I do not want to give anything away. This is a very good story.
This novel was amaIng we learn along with Orrin and his adopted family of friends who he is, where he came from, and his purpose. Loved this novel. I couldn't stop reading and it kept me enthralled. There was a great mix of fighting sadness and drama. Nothing was ever too much and the descriptions had me visualizing everything with out bogging the story down. Great novel
Personally I do not like so much gore and cruelty. I don't want to give you any spoilers but good does temporarily prevail. I do not want to read anymore of them because of the cruelty but maybe it is your thing. It is well written and holds your interest. Too sad for me...😢
Wow! I thoroughly enjoyed this read. I laughed and cried, and was totally feeling each character. I did not want to put this book down, even after I finished reading it. Benjamin writes very well - two thumbs up :)
I thought this was a great YA book for all ages, It was about a young man who was sent to a planet to right some wrongs that was going on. On getting there he goes about it a whole lot different than the person who sent him there planned. A very good book
Over the past 15 years I've almost exclusively read Christian Fiction and lately Christian fantasy. For me it is a great escape. I appreciated the author's restraint in not using this genre as a disguise for another romance novel. This book and its prequel were genuinely interesting, very visual, just the right amount of characters to understand where you are in the story line with good character development. Good vs evil but not too predictable. I thoroughly enjoyed both books in the series. When is the next one coming out? I'm ready!
