I checked this book out for my homeschooled 7th-8th grade son who will be solidifying his Pre-Algebra skills during the next school year. I was immediately taken aback, though, by the fact that the first word problem is a subtraction problem FAR too easy for a Pre-Algebra student. (The problem is definitely at a third grade level.)It wasn't until halfway through the book that I found a couple of pages which might be of passing interest to my son: discussions about expressions and variable expressions (though the problems are still too easy).When I checked I discovered that the target audience for this book is ages 7+ (grades 2 and up). Except . . . what second grader is really studying Pre-Algebra? What second grader is ready (really) to learn about expressions, variables and formulas? Only a fairly precocious one, I am sure.Bottom line: if you have an elementary-aged child who is crazy about math and wants to already being doing higher-level stuff, then by all means check this book out from the library.
