What You Never Knew About Beds, Bedrooms, & Pajamas (Around-The-House History (Aladdin Paperbacks))
Ebooks Online

You make your bed in the morning. At times in the past, people really made their beds -- and at night they stuffed straw into a sack, making a bed to lie on. Nightclothes were first worn in the 1500s. Before that, people slept in their day clothes, their underwear, or nothing at all. In Ancient Rome, bedrooms were small. A servant guarded the doorway by sleeping across it. Learn these facts and more in this true but funny account as Newbery Honor Patricia Lauber and celebrated illustrator John Manders go under the covers to explore beds, bedrooms, and pajamas since the Stone Age. They'll show you how the world's been sleeping since the dawn of time.

My 8-yr old nephew loves this book and the other two in this series. He's read them so many times over and over again. Although the book seems to be about only beds, it is very educational because it puts beds in the context of history over the ages (e,g. stone age, middle ages, etc). So, children are also learning history. Additionally, the writing is very engaging. I wish there were more in this series.

This book is entertaining, with cartoon characters and dialog bubbles. The fun cartoons make the tect memorable and help kids see an everyday item (bedtime) in the context of history. Informative, well-researched illustrations.

Patricia Lauber's book is fun. The illustrations are colorful and engaging and the text is quite interesting. The book is enjoyable for the whole family!

This book is very well written and will entice reluctant readers. Children will love the references to underwear and "sleeping bare".
