Don't you just hate it when the lector mangles the pronunciation of a city or a person? Our Sunday Visitor's helpful "Lector's Guide to Biblical Pronunciations, Updated" should be on the bookshelf in every sacristy.Originally published in 1975, this revised version was necessary in light of the new translation of the Roman Lectionary approved in 1998. It contains more than 100 new words and also allows the lector to look up confusing words in one of two ways. Lectors can either look a word up in the alphabetical listing of words at the end of the book, or they can look up difficult words based upon the readings in a particular year and season. The only drawback to the latter is that a great many lectors may not know what year (A, B, or C) the Church is in.

I was hoping to have the booklet give all the OT name pronunciations. Far from it. It gives some but certainly not even close to what I think it should have. It has all this other information that I find utterly useless. Not pertinent to the title at all. A HUGE disappointment. I've since ordered another book which promises to give 3000+ pronunciations versus about 100 or so in this book..

Reading from the Bible can be a "job," especially if you do not know how to pronounce all of the Biblical names. The LECTOR'S GUIDE TO BIBLICAL PRONUNCIATIONS has assisted me for almost 30 years, and in its updated format that lists all of the "challenging" words by each Sunday in the church's 3-year cycle, it makes a lector's job even easier. There are other similar books out there, that have good qualities, too, but if you are just interested in knowing how to pronounce those troublesome words, this is the book you need for reference.

Very Good. Concise and to the point. Provides an excellent reference for those involved in reading the Word of God for the praying community or simply interested in exactly how those difficult words really sound.

Great Lector's Guide to Biblical Pronunciation. Sorry they do not remain at the Ambo very long. People borrow them and never return them. I have bought many for many different parishes and they all seem to disappear.

The book is a compact and easy way to carry your pronunciations with you when you are going to proclaim and assist you when preparing at home. Since I do daily lecturing the glossary in back helps me most.

I read at daily Mass and this little book has helped me not mispronounce some of the ancient places they visited or their names. It is small, handy and exactly what I was looking for in my preparation. Awesome!

I think I ordered the wrong guide, but it is OK. I wanted it for lectors at church, but found that there are many names that are not in it.
