This book introduces young children to Shabbat as a young spider and his mother watch a family prepare for Shabbat. The colors are bright and vivid and the text is clear and easily accessible to young children. Concepts introduced include sunrise-sunset,shabbat preparation and family togetherness. Don't miss the challah recipe on the last page.
This book series doesn't talk about the history of the holiday but instead focuses the story on the traditions that Sammy the spider observes from his web. For those who complain about the lack of history...toddlers that would enjoy this book are doing just that...observing the traditions in the home. The colors are bright and get attention and the story is simple for the little ones. I liked it.
We read at least 5 books every night to our toddler. To keep my husband and I from going stir crazy (we love Brown bear, but even if you change every animal's color, it still gets dull), we buy books for the season. I wanted to love this book; but it fell flat and was frankly unimaginative. We would appreciate any suggestions for titles on this topic.
One of Several in a Series - the religious school kids love this (as do the teacher and her husband). The who series is worthwhile Get them well before the intended holiday, so you have the right one at the right time. Nice illustrations.
My class loves to hear about Sammy the spider and they like to see how he is not allowed to do things like the family who is celebrating the holiday but in the end Sammy finds a way to celebrate.Great book. I have the whole series. Just love it.
