MARCS Of A Disciple: A Biblical Guide For Gauging Spiritual Growth (Replicate Disciple-Making Resources) (Volume 1)
Ebooks Online

“How can I know if my disciple-making efforts are effective? How can I know if people growing spiritually?” Have you ever asked these questions? If so, you are not alone. Many disciple-makers regularly struggle with these issues. While attendance and baptisms are easily counted, measuring the spiritual maturity of our people is not quite so simple. To make matters worse, an unfortunate reality of our day is that pastors are graded on how big their churches are and not how mature their people have become. Sadly, the American church has adopted business metrics to grow churches rather than biblical methods for growing disciples. In MARCS of a Disciple, Pastor Robby Gallaty provides a biblical guide for gauging spiritual growth. Mature disciples are Missional, Accountable, Reproducible, Communal, and Scriptural. Use this book as a measuring stick to determine the health and effectiveness of disciple-making in your church and personal life. Jesus didn’t leave the maturity of his disciples to chance; neither should we.

What do the following words have in common?MissionalAccountableReproducibleCommunalScripturalThey are all the MARCS of real discipleship. Dr. Gallaty describes the simple, yet powerful attributes needed in a discipleship relationship. Filled with both Scriptural teaching and real life examples, every reader of this book will become motivated to be an effective practitioner of reproduction in disciple-making.

MARCS is a great tool to help equip leaders at all levels understand spiritual growth. Rather than providing a scale or rating system, Dr. Gallaty provides biblical metrics that help leaders determine when spiritual maturity is happening. Rather than gauging the success of ministry by how many people are attending, MARCS of a Disciple illuminates new measures based on the Great Commission - Jesus' model for making disciples. If you lead a bible study, Sunday school class, small group, or a discipleship group of any kind, read this book together to help gain an understanding of spiritual growth. Additionally, church staff, leadership, and key laity will benefit by reading and discussing MARCS. Excellent book for staff to go through together as they discuss the metrics and culture of the church in which they serve.

One of the hardest things to do as someone in ministry is gauge the depth of someone's walk with Christ. Robby's approach to Discipleship is straightforward and effective at ensuring believers are walking steadily and growing deeply in their relationship with Jesus, but measuring their walk is more difficult than it would seem. Merely counting numbers doesn't help--an effective disciple-making ministry has nothing to do with numbers. What Robby has done in MARCS is change up the way we measure the spiritual depth of those we are investing in. It is invaluable for full-time ministers, but it is equally as important for laypeople who are either taking inventory of their own spiritual walk or determining how they can better lead a D-Group. It's a quick read, but an important one as the church sets out to carry out Jesus' final words: making disciples who make disciples.

It's essential to gauge spiritual growth. When churches only want to count baptisms and numbers and say "the rest is up to the Lord" it is an excuse to not go deeper with people. MARCS is simplistic in writing yet profound in its implications and pastors need to take seriously the ministry of discipleship. Robby has written a timely work, and has been preaching Jesus' message since he was born again. "Make disciples...baptize them...teach these new disciples all that I have commanded." May we get back to the calling of the ministry that changed the world: Disciple making.
