My four year old loves this book. He likes the look of the overall pages, the color, the veggies. He likes that the pages rhyme. All in all, you could not ask for a beeter book that explains how much God loves you. We do devotion time at our home each evening and this book works its way in almost everytime even though new books have been bought. I love it and I know that you and your family will also.
My son likes reading this book. He's 3. He's not crazy about the movies, but he likes the books and CDs. I think he likes this one because it really talks on a kid's level. I also think he likes looking at the "kid" artwork of the characters.
We own a few of these Veggie Tales books and think they're clever, heartfelt, and keep the kids' attention. My boys and childcare kids ask me to read this to them at least once a week, so they obviously enjoy it (out of the 1000+ books they could choose)! It's a wonderful book for everyone as it instills a positive sense of self-worth in kids and explains how much they are loved. As a parent of a rough 2-year old, I'm thankful that it is a large board book, still looking good after 2 years. The price was reasonable, too. If you have a Veggie Tales fan or a child younger than 6, I highly recommend this.
I do not feel that this book portrays God's love well and completely ignores Christ, who is the culmination of God's love for us. I actually makeup stories around the pictures when I read it to my son because I don't like the actual words. Also, it has very poor english. It is meant to be written in a relaxed language, but I find it to be annoying and a way I do not want to teach my toddler to speak. He loves the pictures tho. This is our second Veggie Tales book purchase by two different authors and I have yet to be impressed...this will most likely be our last.
My daughter LOVES VeggieTales and so do I. All of the episodes we've seen communicate Biblical principles in the most creative way, while maintaining the integrity of the Biblical account. The only problem is that my daughter (18 months) now asks to watch VeggieTales throughout the day... she's become a little obsessed! So as not to have her watching the television constantly, we got her this book for Christmas. The theme of the book is repeated on every page by a different VeggieTales character... God loves you! The illustrations are awesome -- that's actually what I like most about this book. Cute book. The board book format is great for little ones. The book is substantial in size. Would recommend it.
This book, by Cindy Kenney and Brian Ballinger is a very honest book. It doesn't get into Jesus or faith or scripture. It could be used by anyone that believes in a God that takes a personal interest in your life. Each character recounts a few of the things that are right and wrong with them and says that God loves them anyway. The French Peas say "We once were fish slappers, we've even thrown shakes. But God loves us even though we make mistakes." Laura Carrot talks about her parents taking care of her when she's sick and God being there, too. And yes, Junior Asparagus is in this one. It's a page per character and simple to read. It's fun to do voices, if you know them or just make them up, if you don't. We started reading this one before our kids started watching Veggie Tales and some things were confusing, because they didn't know the characters, but they quickly accepted that the characters were each unique, but God loved them that way. I will say, though, now that my kids are watching Veggie Tales, they get more out of the characters.
We love this book so much. :-) We got this as a gift, and then I've had to buy this same book twice because we keep wearing it out! It features all the classic characters, Bob, Larry, Junior, Laura, Madame Blueberry, Archibald, the French Peas, Ma and Pa Grape, etc. Highly recommend!
My son has always loved veggie tales, all four of the kids show some interest actually. We have purchased this book twice. My son ripped it up the first time after looking at it for months, but since he loved it so much we got another one. It was important for us to reach him in some way that he would pay attention to and say that God loves him. He's autistic and we don't know how much of christianity he absorbs, or understands.
