Sammy Spider was fast asleep in his family web up on the Shapiro's ceiling. A warm spring sun shown through the window, and suddenly a loud noise wakened him.Mr. Shapiro was dusting the ceiling with a broom. Sammy's mother explained that each spring, when the Shapiro family cleaned for Passover, the Spiders made a new web. As his mother told him how to spin a web, Sammy was distracted by the squares on the table below."That's called matzah." Mrs. Spider explained that the Shapiros would eat it at their special meal, called a seder, which also featured a big platter with a roasted egg, bone, parsley, charoset and bitter herbs to help them celebrate. Sammy watched Mr. Shapiro hide the afikomen. After the meal, his son Josh would have try to find it to earn a prize.Sammy was simply not interested in making a web. He listened to Josh ask the Four Questions--why was this night different from all other nights? When Josh hunted for the Afikomen, he also found a special present from Sammy Spider. But that's a secret also hidden--between the covers of this cute book. This book is a special Pessach delight for the three-and-under set. Alyssa A. Lappen
This book is very good for young children of all ages. It teaches the children in a fun way why we celebrate Passover and the history about it.
The Sammy The Spider Passover Book is one every Jewish child should have in there personal library. The colors are vibrant and the story is fun. This is a great series. My children enjoyed me reading the story over and over again.
Great book for trying to introduce a small child to Passover. The illustrations are beautiful and very appropriate for a 4-5 year old child.A great introduction to all the holidays as the author writes books for all the holidays .Will definitely purchase more of his books as they are explained in easy understandable languagr
My daughter is 4 (excuse me... she's ALMOST 5! LOL) and she loves all the Sammy Spider books we have read so far. She is also starting to read and so she has been reading this one to me! I love that it explains Passover to her in terms she gets! We look forward to adding more books about "Silly little Sammy"
My child is 19+ months, so old enough to start to take part in the tradition of passover, ut not old enough to fully understand all of its concepts or parts to it. This book was a good introduction to the story and she loves the itsy bitsy spider! The pictures were abstract enough to invoke imagination in the story and the reading was simple enough to read without her getting bored. The songs for each of the sections made it enjoyable for the whole family. This book will be great for the next 3-4 years at least. Would buy again.
Well the spider is not Jewish but this book does talk about observing others rituals and traditions in a different culture, specifically Judaism. A cute book for a class. I used it for my 2 year old preschool class and they enjoyed it. It really inspired a discussion about shapes, specifically triangles and how to make the Star of David. You could do lots of fun Passover projects with this books theme.
Cute book for young children about shapes and about Passover. Nice, colorful illustrations and colorful shapes illustrate this story about Sammy, a young spider who learns how to spin a web while watching a family observe Passover. I received this book free to review from Netgalley.
