I LOVE the illustrations, so sweet and lifelike. I like the story up to Jesus' birth, goes according to the Gospels. But I was shocked when the baby was born and nothing was said about "His name was Jesus, the Son of God." I am ok with making a comparison to the birth of all babies, with regard to the happiness and joy a birth brings, but it needs to be clear that we are all children of God wheras Jesus WAS God. I felt like a page was just missing when the baby was born. Really, if not a page, a sentence would have done it. This is supposed to be a book about the birth of Jesus Christ in a manger, and the name Jesus or Baby Jesus or Son of God is never mentioned? WHY? Was the author trying to be politically correct or something and not wanting to offend anyone's religious beliefs or lack of them? I don't get it. This omission ruins what is otherwise a sweet, beautifully illustrated and well written book for a toddler. When you are reading it to your child, you will have to fill in the missing message and the whole meaning of the birth of Jesus, Who He is, and why we celebrate Christmas.

Disappointed! If you want a story to follow the account of Jesus actual birth this is not the book. I was hoping at the end it would redeem itself, but instead it takes the focus totally off Jesus and puts it on all babies. Which, in my opinion, is not the point of Christmas. Wishing I had spent the money on a different book for my son.

This is a cute book but it was clearly written to appeal to people of all religions and so has somewhat diluted and changed relative to the traditional Christmas story, for example it talks about (but doesn't name) baby Jesus then goes on to talk about all babies being special. So in one sense it's a cute story that's likely to have wide appeal and our baby loves it, but if you're looking for something more true to the original this isn't the one.

I love reading this to my daughter. The pictures are wonderful, and do a great job portraying the story of jesus being born. And it also relates it to a baby being born in the image of God. I just Love it!!

I should have read the other reviews before purchasing. The narrative takes a pantheistic interpretation of the birth of Jesus, and the illustrations of the angels are concrete, cartoonish children, not mystical beings. Not suitable for families wanting to nurture faith.

I love this version of the Christmas story. It goes through the familiar pieces of the story; Mary and Joseph trying to find a place to stay, the animals rejoicing, the angels rejoicing, the shepherd rejoicing and the wisemen coming from afar. But there was a sweet addition to this story that I wasn't expecting. At the end of the Christmas part of the story it says that the Baby smiled with God's own smile but the book doesn't end there. It goes on to tell a short story about what happens every time a baby is born; angels rejoice, moms, dads, grandparents rejoice and the baby smiles with God's own smile. I definitely want to get this book for my grandchildren's first Christmas! - Mama Carmody

This is by far my favorite Christmas book! A storybook about the true meaning of Christmas! If you want a Christmas story that kids will relate the birth of Jesus to the miracle of every babies birth, then this book is a winner. I love the illustrations, which are by the same illustrator as the Marley books. The illustrations are beautiful and look life like, I love how the animals are so excited and joyful. The story is wonderful "Have you heard?" "Have you heard!" "A baby is coming this very night!" My children look forward to this book and its wonderful meaning every Christmas!

I purchased this book as part of a Christmas tradition for my daughter. We are going to wrap 25 books and open one each night to read as a family leading up to Christmas (thank you Pinterest for the idea!) This is a board book which will hold up for a few years until we need to upgrade to the next reading level. Love being able to have a book with animals in it to practice our animal sounds as well!! This is an adorable story and will make a great Christmas book!
