This is my favorite book of this genre and recommend it to anyone with a new baby coming. We own 6 different "new baby" books and this is the best because it touches on all aspects of the baby-to-come (it ends when the new baby is only days old). There are illustrations of the mom/older brother at the OB's office, of an embryo and fetus development, of the family going through old baby clothes to prepare for the arrival of #2, of waiting at home w/Grandma while mom & dad go to the hospital, of visiting at the hospital, Dad bathing the baby at home, mom breastfeeding, and of a crying baby, among other illustrations. My daughter wanted to read this book several times daily for months before my son was born. She still loves hearing the book read to her and will read it to her stuffed animals, too, 8 months after my son was born. (My kids are 26 months apart.)

My five-year-old niece took this book out of the library twice. Now, I'm buying it for her to have at home. The book details how a baby grows inside a mommy in simple, uncomplicated words and pictures. The development of a baby is explained in terms a very young child can understand and accept without being frightened or confused. The story also talks about the joy of having a new baby in the house. It is accurately and clearly illustrated with sweet drawings. I highly recommend it for preschool, kindergarten, and even primary school age children.

I first checked this book out at the local library and my son(3years) liked it so much he did not want to return it. We reneweduntil I found a copy to buy. It really helped him understand what was going on inside my tummy without too much explaination.

Bought this book on a whim, walking through Barnes and Noble, to prepare my 2 1/2 year old son for the new arrival. It turned out to be even better than I expected. I was worried that the detail and depth that this book went into would be too much for him, but it seems that at his age, the more info, the better. He requests this book almost nightly, and loves when I change the names in the book so that it's appropriate for our family. As a mom, I really appreciate that this book covers a lot of what will be really happening, so that nothing really comes as a surprise to him once baby gets here - things like, the umbilical cord scab, baby crying, breastfeeding, sponge baths... etc. It also gives a thorough background of baby's development, which is a key concept to understanding that at some point, Mom's belly will soon give way to a sibling. The author isn't vague nor does she use alternate terms for things, or attempt to "dumb it down" at all. Thanks to the great pictures, even the most complicated things like "umbilical cord" is pretty easy for my son to understand. Will definitely be recommending this book to all my mom friends expecting another little one.

I bought several books on this topic for my 3 year old and she likes this one the best. It has great pictures of a baby growing in the womb and simple explainations. The older sibling (a boy) feels the baby kick, goes to the Dr. with his mom and hears the baby's heartbeat and helps get out his baby clothes and toys for the new baby. Then his grandmother comes over to watch him while the mommy and daddy go to the hospital. He helps hold and bathe the baby and soothe her when she cries. My child asks for this over and over.

This book is something that my kids still enjoy, even with no more babies on the way. It really helped explain a pregnancy, without being too graphic or boring. I loved reading this book to my son and pointing out how big his sister was, compared to the pictures at different stages of pregnancy. The book also does an excellent job acknowledging what the child is experiencing, from going through baby clothes he once wore to grandma pulling out the pictures of him growing up.I purchased several books during my 2nd pregnancy dealing with this subject and it's the only one worth reading over and over. Definitely a must have book if you have a baby sibling on the way.

I have to hold back the tears when I read this book to my son who is almost 4 and expecting his baby brother in a few weeks. It is so helpfull for a child his age to see the trip to the midwife, using the doplar to hear the hearbeat, feeling baby move in mommys tummy, seeing a growth chart showing baby's growth in a very accurate way for a child his age. I love the picture where they take out all of his old clothes and get them ready for the sibling. Also when the dad and son give the new baby a bath together - it is so touching. I can not highly recommend this book enough especially for an older child that can appreciate the complexity of what is really happening to his family.

My 6 year old son loved this book. We read it practically every night while we were expecting our second baby. He loved to compare what stage of development our baby was in based on the fetal development chart in the book. It's a wonderful, lighthearted story that really helped him get excited about having a new baby in the house.
