I homeschool two teenagers and am currently using Mr. Skousen's book, "The First 2,000 Years", as a supplement to our World History course. I prayerfully choose all teaching material, from the big stuff like textbooks to the minutia, like short video clips and one-sentence quotes from the web.While reading "The Cleansing of America", I had the same impression of its content as I did with that of "The First Two Thousand Years": some info is in line with scripture and official Church teachings and some is the author's interpretation of scripture and Church teachings. Ultimately, each of us must decide what is true and what is not, but we don't have to figure it out on our own. We have a loving Heavenly Father who invites us to prayerfully seek His counsel in determining what is true and correct. My comments above reflect my answer from Him regarding Mr. Skousen's writings.Finally, this quote from former LDS Church president, Joseph Fielding Smith, given in the October 1918 General Conference re: false prophecy (in this case, the White Horse prophecy) adds to my philosophy in determining truth from fiction:"I have discovered that people have copies of a purported vision by the Prophet Joseph Smith given in Nauvoo, and some people are circulating this supposed vision, or revelation, or conversation which the prophet is reported to have held with a number of individuals in the city of Nauvoo.

Skousen points out that if we are prepared and obedient, we need not fear these events, but should embrace them for the blessings they will bring.We all hope that we might someday qualify as a steward in a Zion society, but the probability is that not more than one out of ten of us will make it unless we undertake additional preparations. This is a powerful book, and one that I want to encourage all my family and friends to read. It has certainly changed my life and the way I think, and act.This book has made me stop and think about the way I'm conducting my life. I know that I'm not good enough to live the law of consecration, but if I work hard, I think I can be ready. Included in the book is a long list of commandments that we all need to follow. If we follow the counsel given to us by our prophet, and other general authorities, as well as our local priesthood leaders, we will be guided in knowing how best to prepare for the days ahead.When I find an author I trust who has written about the things I hold dear, such as the LDS gospel, the founding of America and the U.S. Constitution, I can hardly wait to read what they have to say. I loved this book from the first page until the very end. I wanted more and I'm glad that Valor Publishing has agreed to publish more of his books.
