Author Janet Bock wrote in the first chapter of this 1980 book, "When my husband Dick first said to me, 'Do you know that there is a whole period in the life of Jesus that nobody knows anything about?'... Dick and I gradually discussed the 'lost years' over a period of months and gradually became engrossed in the subject. We felt it was important to us to try to find out what had happened during those years... This search was not a gauntlet thrown in the face of the Church. It was simply our way of attempting to resolve questions important to us... Our search for the lost years had been prompted by a book called The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ which we found contained information we had never seen before. With that as a catalyst we began to look for other relevant material and soon heard of a book [The Unknown Life of Jesus] by a Russian, Nicolas Notovitch... Unfortunately, since the Chinese takeover of Tibet and the reported destruction of the monasteries, the hope of returning to search for the original, possibly of testing its age with modern carbon dating methods, is remote." (Pg. 1-3)She adds, "spurred on by each new piece of information, we began to look for corroborations of Notovitch's manuscript... Especially interesting were the works of Edgar Cayce [Edgar Cayce's Story of Jesus]...
