This book isn't anything to jump up and down about, but it was just fine for my little reader to read on her own. It's a step one, and just a sentence or two per page. They also rhyme which is not really necessary but perhaps does help some early readers. It's a fine introduction to polar animals, covering the polar bear, snowy owl, arctic fox, penguin, walrus, and seal. It doesn't teach very much per animal but the photos are fabulous. Really cute ones. There's also a helpful review at the end of facts and key words.I would have given it five stars if they'd managed to slip in a couple more facts. As it is, it is more of an addition to language arts rather than science. Or maybe a nice jumping off point for something more in depth.

This book is very cute, my baby enjoys looking at the beautiful pictures of real animals. It is also very good for older children who are starting to read.

My wife uses these books in her first grade classroom and the kids love them. Recommended for young or starting readers.
