Dorothy Evans lives alone in New York and has a boarder, Mr. Holland, who is a playwright. One day an English attorney (although that is not the right word) calls on her to tell her that her aunt has died and left her everything.Dorothy and Mr. Holland travel to England to claim her inheritance. Against the advice of her neighbor, Thomas Breckenridge, the Earl of Wainwright, Dorothy starts to Americanize the estate. The locals begin to plot ways to get rid of her, even to taking away her inheritance.
This story has an amazing storyline that completely draws you into. You cannot help falling in love with the characters and feeling all of their emotions as if they were you. This story sucks you in and I couldn't put it down until the end. I cannot wait for the next book!
