Bought the first one because someone suggested it to me and ended up buying them all. The plot might not be the most complicated in the world and sometimes was easy to see ahead of but she surprised me once or twice and the characters are just so well done that I'm willing to give this all five stars just for that alone.
The title of this series Maelstrom is the perfect definition of what the main character for this series goes through upon arriving on the mining planet of Secren.He is a man who has been betrayed by those he trusts and had given up on everything before arriving on the planet but upon arrival experiences a connection with one of the planets locals, something he himself doesn't want any part in because he is straight. And the story moves on from here I will not say anything else on plot because one I don't like giving too many spoilers in a review and second a whole review shouldn't just be major plot points. I have so far read the story up to the third volume and have loved ever part I have read, my only complaint really was I found it a little hard to get into the first volume but the cliff-hanger made me want to know what happened next.The second volume literally blew my mind! It was adventurous and extremely gripping I read the whole second story in one sitting and then read it again! I also have to say my favourite character in this story so far isn't even human, but a piece of technology that is extremely amusing and funny as hell. For the price of a dollar a copy on the kindle from I can highly recommend this to any yaoi fan with a kindle.
Why did I like this story so much? I thought the plot was interesting and different from many of the other books of this genre type that I have read. I like when a story/book has a unique plot. I'm into sci-fi, and I like the sci-fi elements of this story. I really like how the main character, Demetri, who is being pursued by another character, that he is totally uninterested in, doesn't give in to the other guys advances. I like that he does his best to stands his ground and put up a fight for his beliefs. That sort of thing creates conflict and that's a quality that I think makes a story good and which I really enjoy in a story, especially if there is romance involved in the story. I was impressed by how much personality Demetri's brain box had. And I thought he was excellent comedy relief. Okay, this next statement may be a spoiler, so if you don't want anything spoiled, then you may not want to read this next statement. From a summary of the story that I had read, I thought that Maelstrum was a going to be a brute and that he was just going to try to force Demetri to do what he wanted him to do, but so far he isn't like that. And I really liked that about him. So I think the main characters are well-developed. I liked this story so much, it's hard to wait for part 2 and I really hope that there is going to be a part 2 and that part 2 is available soon. I don't like when stories with multiple parts end with a big cliff-hanger. And this story ends with a bit of a cliff-hanger. It's not too bad, but it's about the only thing that I didn't like about the story. I also thought that it was a little short in length; I wish it had been a little longer. I had expected it to be a bit longer, so I also found the length to be a bit disappointing.
Could be the start of something interesting, but it is just a start. It's barely even a 1st chapter. I understand about serials, but I'm of the opinion each part needs to be complete in some fashion. I consider reading just part of something a waste and off-putting. It discourages me from seeking more.
I was really pleasantly surprised with this. I wasn't expecting much,sort of a quick sexy read. But I got wrapped up in this story from the first chapter. I love Malestroms patience, his affection that seems almost to be endless for Demetri from the get go. While Maelstrom caringly nudges him along, seeming to know what he needs even though Demetri doesn't but yet also has moments where he's revealed to be human and pushes a bit too much straining against his own desires. I really like the balance of this relationship from both sides, Its seen from Demetri's side of things but u can see Malestroms as well. I agree with a previous review that its much to short! Its also got a Sci-fi aspect to it as well, which being a huge sci fan I've found I don't like it much in my Yaoi, but here it just seems to fit so well.I love the realtionship thats built between these two and they just seem to eventually fit like hand and glove. Really a great read and you won't be disappointed for the money. I'm really hoping there is more on the way soon of this fitting couple and they're adventures.
This collection will take you away to a rugged far away world. Where love is hard to come by, but even harder than that is the ability to stay alive! The characters in this story are enhancing and you will fall in-love with them almost immediately! This collection will not disappoint! My only complaint would be is how the "Beta" became so effeminate so easily or quickly. Though the author did leave him some masculine personality it was still a bit to rapid.
