A back-end loader has a big job to do. It starts the day sparkling clean--until it has to remove the garbage from an otherwise empty lot. The lot is very dirty, and the dirt gets all over the back-end loader as it hauls the trash away. Once the lot is cleaned up and smoothed out, one look at the back-end loader will send kids into fits of giggles.Simple phrasing and catchy illustrations provide a silly time for young children. Although not high on educational content, the book has a countdown from ten to one (i.e.: one broken washer). Children who love dirt and grime will enjoy this picture book for its silliness. Other children may be ambivalent. My four-year-old daughter was mildly entertained but not very interested, while a friend's boy of the same age absolutely loved it--proving the book's appeal is on a very individual basis.Overall, it's a nice picture book and good for a silly story.Christina Wantz Fixemer8/15/2006
Ok, so I ended up buying two of these books for my daughter. Why? Because some crazy lady stole the first one right off my front doorstep! So I put the security camera video of her on Facebook. Then a bunch of people snitched on her. I think she felt bad when she saw herself on TV, and turned herself in to the police. Plus I think she was hoping for an IPad or something when she took the package. Oh, about the book.... My daughter liked the new one that the nice lady bought for her. Kate McMullan is one of my daughter's favorite authors.
kids love this book talking about dirty diapers and dog poop. All while it's real message is to teach what the garbage trucks and the drivers do for us. And the interesting end sharing where the trash goes. This can open a new conversation with your children depending on your beliefs. Overall kids love this book and don't need to learn anything to love it. We keep replacing broken copies at our school or giving them as gifts to boys who love dirt.
I left the same review for I Stink! Of the two books I prefer I'm Dirty!, because the backhoe isn't quite as abrasive a character as the garbage truck. My son loves them both and we read them several times a day.I got this for my truck-crazed kiddo after he watched the 12-minute preview of The Stinky and Dirty Show on loop for as long as I could stand it. This is a fun book and he really likes it, but it's not the same sort of character as the show. So if that's what you're looking for, you'll be disappointed. As its own thing it's still really nice.
Lol My two year old son LOVES this story in both book and animated versions. In fact we must have the book open while the show is going. Two and he's got the whole Alphabet Soup memorized before me. Wow. We watch it over 20 times a day and read it over and over again. Lol From the very 1st time this was a HUGE hit. I wish there were animated versions of this whole series...I'm really needing that about now. Lol
I appreciate the subject here, and the pictures are fairly fun, but this series of kid's books just doesn't quite have the shine to stand out from the masses. A really good kids book, to me, needs a hook like a pop song. This just doesn't have it.
This has become a favorite story for nap and bedtime for my son. He is also very excited about the cartoon show that is available on Prime featuring Dirty and his pal Stinky, the garbage truck. These stories are excellently written and illustrated.
My 2.5 year old loves this book. I'm tired of reading it but who can complain about a child wanting to be read to? We bought the book after watching the pilot video 100 times. If you have a boy that loves cars, tractors and such I would say he would love this book too.
