I love the content of this encyclopedia. The pictures and illustrations are beautiful. However, the book started to fall apart just after two weeks of modest use. The poor binding makes what could have been an excellent reference book a last choice. I found out that many of the Usborne encyclopedias for upper elementary grades are published in soft cover with cheap binding. I don't understand why Usborne would publish reference books without the consideration of durability.
Our 7 year old adores this book.However, Usborne bindings aren't terribly impressive. The covers will fall off and pages will fall out if this book is read through more than a few times. And for our information-seeking kiddo, it does happen. Every Usborne book we own has lost its cover and pages after 2-3 readings.You can buy direct from a Usborne rep, at a much steeper price, and can exchange books if they wear down, but you still have to pay 50% of the regular price each time you do. So for us, it was worthwhile to purchase via and just pay lower prices from the beginning.
Great book! We used this for our home school research and it was perfect for my girls 8 and 11.
I have enjoyed this book very much. It has a wealth of information and if you are interested in a given area it has links to look further. Very good source.
