During my reading of the first chapter I was stirred to start doing more for our environment. The author not only educates us on the issues but provides practical ways for us to address those issues. In one week our household has turned around our impact on the world God created for us to enjoy. Ms Sleeth's writing is warm and appealing to all ages. This book is one that I will definitely be giving copies to others and teaching to my children. We CAN make a difference!
Green things are not only growing outside, they are appearing on store shelves and in advertisements across America. In my search to find a meaning behind all this mania, I have read several books and learned a lot about caring for creation. What's great about this student's guide to serving God and saving the planet is that it is more than a mere handbook. I have found both Ms. Sleeth's personal story and her helpful tips to be an aid to my understanding of both "going green" and the role of my faith in this process.
This book was written for teen-agers in the voice of a teen-ager who makes is very clear from the beginning that our North American life style is having a very negative affect on young people in other parts of the world where pollution and other kinds of environmental contamination are causes for illness and poverty. The author writes in a "cheerful and chatty" manner with lots of personal illustrations related to the various topics as presented in each chapter, but the underlying message is very serious. Many practical suggestions are given in each chapter for "doing something" to make a difference.I would recommend that church libraries any where add this book to their shelves, and that it would be good material for small group or Sunday school discussion.
Just the thing to give an up and coming youngster, especially if you know they wish to be useful in this world. Emma Sleeth writes in a conversational style that is a 'fun read', but this book should make me and you do something to help this world. Too many of us ( I am a grandma!) have used and used and not thought of the ramifications of our willynilly expenditures (especially of non-renewable resources). Emma Sleeth gives great ideas for all of us, to rectify that situation. I will hang clothes on the line. Yes, I will! I will. I promise.
