If you’re a grandparent (as I am) and are concerned about your grandchildren learning the old-fashioned values of saving, charity, and entrepreneurship, here’s a terrific book. Like the classic children’s books we grew up with, the story line and language make the concepts easy-to-grasp and the full-color illustrations make it fun.The short parent’s guide in the back provides an easy way to open a discussion about the importance of these basics. Suggested activities encourage and show how they can put them into action now. It’s a book about financial management but ultimately; it’s a book about success.
Wow! What an amazing children's book to teach the basics of life to our younger generations. My boys' (5 & 7) love this book and are intrigued by the concepts Give-Save-Spend. The book is well written, easy to follow, and gets their little minds thinking of ways they can earn money at home to apply the principles. It also encourages them to problem solve and strategize with money they currently have in their piggy banks. Giving is naturally a difficult concept at a young age, but those creative pigs make it fun! I will be purchasing more as gifts for nieces and nephews!!!
This delightful children's book packs some fantastic teaching into a highly engaging story without being boring or preachy. Inspired by his own three young children, the author, Clint Greenleaf, researched everything he could find on research and writing about teaching children how to handle money. When he found an alarming paucity of information, he decided to do something about it, writing both a primer for parents called "BEYOND THE PIGGY BANK: A Simple Plan for Raising Financially Capable Children," as well as this charming companion book for children.Basing the story on the already-familiar one of the three little pigs, the author and his talented illustrator Paul Wilson have woven a simple tale that can go a long way towards helping very young children understand the basics of earning, saving, and helping those less fortunate. It allows parents and grandparents to begin a conversation and some teaching that will expand as children get older. Highly recommended!
I could tell my pre-schooler was engaged because she asked good questions along the way. It is presented in a very simple format which provides an introduction to basic to the concept of money. As we re-read this book over the next several years, the message will get clearer to her. There should be more books like this for younger kids.(Many adults could learn from this book as well.)
Financial planning takes a basic understanding of a few key financial principles and a bit of discipline. Clint does a great job of distilling these basics into a format that my kids (10 & under) could easily understand. The story line immediately resonated with my kids and it added a unique twist to the classic story. My kids immediately wanted to trade in their single piggy-banks for three new ones so they could break down their loot into Give, Save, & Spend categories. It sparked a conversation about financial goals for them personally and for our family and led into a bigger conversation that had us all excited about our financial future. The animations are bright and lively and even my 2 year old was entertained. If you're looking for a straight-forward, easy-to-understand book that walks your kids through the basics of financial planning, this book is the perfect start.
This should be required reading to children in helping them begin to understand and grasp the basic essentials of financial concepts. The book is an easy, and fun, way to deliver important and useful monetary lessons children can build upon as they grow older.Highly recommended!
I liked learning about the importantness of saving money and not to spend it on stuff I don't need. Mommy read this book to me. I am 5. I liked the pictures too. The piggies were good at saving money and I think my little brother would like this book too.Complementary copy given through netgalley.
This is a great book with fun pictures, an engaging plot, and is a fantastic tool for teaching little ones about money. My son is 2 1/2 and asks to read it every night. I'm sure as he gets older, we will be able to have more in depth discussions about money using the tips at the end of the book.
