He became a crocodile trapper after graduating high school, catching the creatures before dangerous poachers could. Steve met his wife, Terri, at his family's park, and instead of a honeymoon, the pair filmed a wildlife documentary that led to the creation of the well-known series The Crocodile Hunter. Tragically, Steve was killed on September 4, 2006 while filming a documentary when a stingray attacked, piercing his heart. He was forty-four years old. However, his life's work obviously still strikes a chord with kids who voted him the winner of the 100th Who Was...? title.

Our 10 year old LACHNES MONSTER ordered and bought this book after finding this series in his school library. This particular book was the 100th title created in this series. The 10 year old reports: "it was a good book all around and I learned a lot about crocodiles, and how Steve Irwin spent his life". The order was easy, came within a few days and was an excellent reading level for a 10 year old. Highly recommended.
Third graders love this series. When I opened the box of books in class, the students cheered and shouted, "When can we start reading them?", "Can we read them now?" I loved their response and had to pull sticks to decide who would get to read them first. The books are entertaining and fit the bill when it comes to having students read informational text. I have the students fill out a literature reflection that I created that covers the Common Core Reading Standards for informational text. You can make your own or find one from a "teacher made" website.
Bought for my grandson that's in third grade and doing a report on Steve Irwin. It's the perfect book with just enough information for a third grader to grasp without going over the top, which would just be too boring.
This was an easy-to-read book for my 3rd grader to use as a basis for her report on Steve Irwin. It's a great series of books with almost everyone's biography included that a kid would be interested in.
Students saw this book and said "I know him" but didn't have much information. They loved this book and passed it around. Text features were engaging and the content was awesome. This series is an excellent way to transition kids from non-fiction books to chapter books.

My son needed a biography for a project at school and wanted to choose someone unique. He was very happy with this book and it gave him enough useful information for his project and was concise enough to keep him interested.
I hadn't seen any books from this series before, so I read it before I gave it as a gift. It seemed at a good level for understanding from ages 5 or 6 on up, and I found it interesting as well. The illustrations were nice, too.
