Despite the fact that so many women and girls have abortions every day, in every city, all around us, it can be a lonely experience. Not Funny Ha-Ha is a little bit technical, a little bit moving, and often funny, in a format uniquely suited to communicate. The book is meant to be a non-judgmental, comforting, even humorous look at what a woman can go through during an abortion. Although the subject matter is heavy, the illustrations are light. The author takes a step back from putting forth any personal opinion whatsoever, simply laying out the events and possible emotional repercussions that could, and often do occur.

Straightforward and factual, this book covers the details of a medical procedure without adding any personal or political opinion. It's a graphic novel, but the drawings are not cutesy, and there is an overall seriousness to the presentation. Nicely done.

LOVE this book! Abortion is a very devisive topic and I wouldn't recommend buying this book for your hard core pro-life family members. However, it's a wonderfully written text for those who want more info on the topic. The facts are all correct and there's no judgement about those who choose to (or not) have an abortion. As a human sexuality instructor I highly recommend this book for teenage readers and above.
Very clear about the abortion process. I'm glad that this book is out there. If you are considering an abortion and don't know much about the process, please buy and read this book.
A very necessary book the market has been lacking. Hayes writes with common sense and compassion in an effort not to be polarizing but to inform. I truly believe if more people read this book, the political issue would be more humanized and less inflammatory. The debate regarding abortion would still exist obviously, but maybe with a little less vitriol? I would recommend this to every woman who is facing this choice. To every teenager contemplating having sex. To every boy who has unintentionally impregnated his girlfriend. And so many more.
I love this book because it talks about different abortions and different people. I worked for an organization that is cited as a source in the book. It is both factual and informative of the emotional process of two fictional people who have abortions.
Seriously an amazing book. An amazing conversation starter on a difficult topic for many people. I'm very impressed with the writers ability to keep any sort of bias out of it while still being able to let the reader know that if it's something you're going through and you feel sad about it, that's perfectly okay, just as much as if you feel completely at ease with it, that's just as okay. The author took great pains to write an unbiased, very supportive book for those who may be experiencing abortion themselves, or they know someone. It's also just a great informational book to understand from beginning to end the process of abortion and some potential feelings that could be associated. Seriously one of my favorite graphic novels.
