I'd like to begin by saying how much I love the illustrations! They're colorful sketches that capture the feel of each language/region in a way that's more authentic then what one would see in a Disney book. For each endearment, you're given the English word(s), the term or phrase in the foreign language, and the pronunciation. Very helpful if you want to use the endearment with your own little HA-li-pu-pu (Hug Bunny).

This is a great starter book for introducing other cultures and languages to preschoolers. It is simple and the illustrations are interesting. Teaching younger kids about love and affection across cultures while introducing tidbits of language and tradition is a great mix. We also did an activity of writing down what mommy and daddy call you out of affection and illustrating it.

This book is so sweet. I read it to my ESL (English as a Second Language) class the other day, and they loved it. They kept looking for their languages and were intrigued by all the names used in the different cultures. I'm so glad to find this book and add it to my classroom library.

My children (ages 3 and 8) love this book! It's exactly as we expected, a multicultural collection, that shares how children are loved through sweet terms of endearment around the world. They really enjoyed the artwork and love learning funny names in many languages. There were a few that induced extra giggly moments, like "ma puce (mah-POOss)", meaning "my flea" in French or how in the Ethopia, they say "yeinay filikliklik (YEN-ay Fa-lik-lik)", meaning "my bubble of joy." I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in sharing how other culture's love their families, too!

I think I've read this book every night for a month . . . or since I gave the book to my daughter for Valentine's Day. Creative and fun!
