A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS   In 2002, the world changes forever. Every man, every boy, every mammal with a Y chromosome everywhere on Earth suddenly collapses and dies. With the loss of nearly half the planet’s population, the gears of society grind to a halt, and a world of women is left to pick up the pieces and try to keep civilization from collapsing entirely.   The “gendercide,” however, is not absolutely complete. For some unknown reason, one young man named Yorick Brown and his pet male monkey, Ampersand, are spared. Overnight, this anonymous twenty-something becomes the most important person on the planet — the key, it is hoped, to unlocking the secret of the mysterious sex-specific plague.   For Yorick himself, the cause of the epidemic is less important than the fate of his beloved fiancée, Beth. Now, after nearly four years and countless grueling miles, the final answers are about to be revealed—and the truth may be more than any man could bear.   In the conclusion to their acclaimed VERTIGO series Y: THE LAST MAN, writer Brian K. Vaughan and artist Pia Guerra bring to vivid life the age-old speculation: What would really happen to the last man on Earth?   Collects Y: THE LAST MAN #49-60.

Well, that's it. The acclaimed Vertigo series comes to an end with this volume, and now it's time for the final assessment. The final serves up a final confrontation with both of the series major villains. The first is with the employer of Toyota, and is done very well. The second, unfortunately, ended rather anticlimactically. A last second motive change really took the bite out of that arc. Which was especially disappointing, because every other character is given such a great send-off. The series gives us a double length epilogue that may very well be the best epilogue I have ever read.Overall, I say this series had top-tier characters, dialogue, and artwork, and a middling-to-above-average plot. If it would have just relied less on action movie cliche's, it would have earned a full 5 stars. As it stands, I give this series 4.2 stars out of 5. Well worth the read.

Well written and well illustrated the series asks important questions about our nature and also gives us a parallel universe in which women are the only survivors of a plague except Yorick our male character who is basically the last man alive along with his pet monkey and women protectors. Volume five is on par with the rest of the books and a very emotional addition to the series. Great story and great reading. "Just go out there and get your heart broken in, so it'll be ready when you really need it" yorick

One of the best series I have ever read. one of the must get/read graphic novel series
