MARRYING THE SCARRED SHEIKH (Harlequin Comics)
Ebooks Online

Ella is a glassblower who hides from the outside world. In order to cool off after working by the fire every day, she walks along the beach at night. But last night she saw a strange man swimming in the ocean where no one should have been...naked as the day he was born. His figure standing still, bathed in moonlight, was like Apollo emerging from the sea. On his face was a heartbreaking sca—was he hiding in the dark night, too?

This book stumped me so much because I have no ties to the hero or heroine here. For the longest time, both were completely wishy-washy and then all of a sudden at 98% the author has them revealing they're in love with each other.Yet the WHOLE time, the hero was all "woe is me, I have scars and she's still in love with her dead husband" and the heroine waxed on and on about how wonderful her dead husband was. There was never a moment of release. The heroine NEVER let go of her husband. It was drilled into the reader's head over and over that the heroine is 100%, completely COMPLETELY not over her dead for a year husband so how in the world are we suppose to believe these two are in love?Way too much telling and not showing. It actually started well. I liked it. Then it got redundant as all get out and never went anywhere and all of a sudden the author tells us what she never showed through words and character actions.Pass this one on by like scenery.

When are writers, going to realize, that the whole point of a Beauty & the Beast Theme (for most readers) is that the beast is ugly? Also, I found the hero's interest in the heroine very blah. Understandably he was tormented by his deformity. But his reluctance to connect with the heroine (as well as his raw emotions), were more out of his fear that no woman could really want him, than any strong feelings for the heroine. Yes, he liked her but even toward the end of the book (around 85% Kindle talk) he is still worry about getting attached to the heroine. While the heroine had already fallen in love with him (around 80% Kindle book). And her feelings were intense: she agonizes over the hero, over her love for him and her desire to have a future with him. While the hero does not declare his love until 96% of the book, in a rushed way (that for me lacked depth, when all I read throughout the book was: that he was not interested in a relationship. There were very few words to describe his feelings of love for the heroine, very little of his point of view in this regard, and totally unsatisfying. And yes, for most of the book, the heroine is still in love with her dead husband, or so she says. But immediately after meeting the hero she feels the stirrings of life again within her, and for the rest of the book, she is all edgy over her attraction for the hero. She finds him the most gorgeous man she has ever seen, scars and all. And his first kiss was by far better than anything she had ever experienced, and so on. Therefore, I disagree with the reviewer, that found the heroine too concentrated in her late husband. I mean the poor husband was a second fiddle to the hero in looks, passion, excitement, etc.

I loved the chemistry between Khalid and Ella from the very beginning when they met on the beach in the dark. It was a sweet and touching story. He felt unworthy of love and she was getting over the loss of her husband but they fell in love and persevered all obstacles. I was on the edge of my seat when he fights the fire. And the end of this book is so romantic! Read and enjoy!

Great story. I love all of the layers of Khalid. He's so tough and vulnerable at the same time. Great book!
