I read this entire series recently and liked the books Throughout the series, there seemed to be gaps, actions that didn't seem realistic in the circumstances within stories. But, I did like them and read all the ones that were on at that point. Now that I am reading the Morris Fenris series, Taking the High Road, I understand why. This entire series by Paige Powers mimics the Fenris books, plot, characters and story line. The location of the family plantation and surname of the brothers may have changed, along with the characters' first names, but the plot and main componants, even the descriptions of the problem, character descriptions throughout the entire series by Powers so far is pretty much a copy of the Fenris series. Book 1-daughter of a madam returning from Switzerland, discovers parents died and receives inheritance and moves to CA to open a school. Pinkerton man involved as well as greedy fiancee. Book -Widower with a child rescues an Indian/Mexican girl who was kidnapped by man who bothers her daily at the town bazaar.Same thing continues with the next four bools. If I remember correctly, Powers' are a tad gentler and without the use of cursing found in the Fenris books. The Powers books had more modern language that wouldn't have been used in that time period. Fenris books strongly exaggerate the Southern dialect, about to the point of being insulting to anyone of Southern descent.Overall, I did like the Powers books and had been looking forward to the stories of the rest of the brothers. However, given that each of the Powers books was released two to four months following the corresponding Fenris books, it really makes me question them and the authenticity of the author's (Powers) work.
