A simple story about things that a family can do in autumn. Depicts apple picking with the family at an apple farm, pumpkin picking, and carving a jack-o-lantern. The last three pages feature trick or treating with the children dressed as: pirate, ghost, queen and a devil. This is a short story with illustrations going across both pages, bright colors, hand drawn. This book has a low word count and is for very young children, from toddlers through age five or perhaps even six. This is perfect for use by Preschool, Kindergarten teachers and homeschoolers when the teacher wants to read books about the autumn season. Of course it is also good for parents to read to children.I enjoyed that the book was family focused and about a family doing things together, versus just talking about apples and pumpkins.

My 4 year old class really enjoyed this story and the cooking activities we did as follow up. The illustration is beautiful and the prose is appealing to young ears.

I read the Big Book version of this with my primary classes, accompanied with the audio, and they really enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun just before Halloween. They liked the fall colors. It was pretty and colorful. It is not a "baby" book as it is classified, but is appropriate for kindergarten or first grade.

I'm giving this 5 stars because it was my child's favorite Halloween book out if several that I purchased. He is 4 and requested this for bedtime every night. It could also be used as a set in reading groups, 1st grade.I didn't like it, honestly, at first. Maybe because the "Comstock Farm" made me go huh? But it was a surprise winner with my kiddo.

I bought this as a fall book for my 3 year old son. He loves this book and picks it most nights before bed. He related to it since we also went to a farm to pick our pumpkins this year. It's a cute simple book about fall and Halloween and I'm sure is one we will enjoy for quite a few more years.

Great little seasonal picture book! Excellent for younger elementary students who can decode basic words in sentences. Fun, colorful pictures with just enough detail to make the story interesting. As a school-based Speech-Language Pathologist, this fits my need for a seasonal read-aloud to foster thinking and discussion based on pictures/text. Will use to target wh- questions, story retelling, vocabulary development, and syntax. Thank you for the digital bonus feature of enlarged text when the reader double clicks. Very useful for both students and aging readers like me!

When recently planning for my weekly (Special Ed) Pre-K theme, I came across this book. The pictures are in color (good for small children) & not too busy. They were able to point our several things in each picture with minimal prompting. Because my Apple & Pumpkin theme weeks followed each other, I read this book on Friday - which sort of finished out my apple week, & introduced my pumpkin week. A definite good addition to my personal library.

Apples and Pumpkins by Anne Rockwell is one of Elion's favorite books. She loves reading this book together, simple and easy. The illustrations are wonderful and colorful. I will also be reading this too her at the end of the month, when we learn about pumpkins! If you are going to visit an orchard or a pumpkin patch this is a great read to get your child excited about apples and pumpkins!
