My 5th grade son has had no problems using this thesaurus. The format is very easy to understand and the words contained within are compatable with the words middle school children are learning.

We homeschool our 2 kids (ages 8 & 11) and my 11 year old needed something on his level and this fit his style and level and will be able to keep him for a couple of years.I'll leave that part up there so you can see my very basic original review. In the past year we find ourselves looking up more and more online vs using this thesaurus. Though both kids can and do use it - a lot of the vocabulary words we seem to need are not even listed making it frustrating for both of us. We have an older thesaurus which I make them use just so they know how - but instead of investing in this one - I would save money, get an older one at a used book store (we found ours for less than $1), then let them look up words on-line. I can find so many other places to spend my $15 at this point - but we still keep this one around.** Updated because I wasn't thinking and used "dictionary" instead of thesaurus - but the meaning was the same. Years later this book now just collects dust - we still use the $1 one and it's passed around my 3 teens for school work!

The last time I checked, a thesaurus is supposed to be a book of synonyms and antonyms. This book is actually a dictionary, with one word referenced for each definition given. So, the word "mad" might have 3 different definitions, and you're only going to get one word for each of those. I am very disappointed, disgruntled, annoyed, foiled, disenchanted, upset, frustrated, and unsatisfied. No, I did not use this thesaurus to help me find these words.

Glad I bought this resource for the whole family to use and enjoy. I bounces from child to child, and then up to mom and dad, and then to the neighbor. It's used almost every day and is already showing some signs of being dog-eared, but the strong binding is holding up well. A great resource for every household.

Bought this and a Merriam-Webster Dictionary (same cover design, etc.) for my niece's 3rd grade son. You should have seen the anticipatory smile drop off his face when he saw the books. He'll thank me some day. Maybe. I've bought all my niece's and nephews (and apparently now their offspring) dictionaries and word books for the last 25-30 years. I think it's a good way to get them in the habit of reading, whether printed or on a screen. To my credit I also included a couple of sports themed children's books is offering by an author my wife knew in college.

After having pleurisy in both Lungs; I realized my short term memory was gone along with my cook skills. This book has become my best friend in front of my face so I can spell words again. I have one in the Living Room & my bedroom.

The books are in great condition and the service was great. Received the order within a week or so.

She wanted to use the dictionary app on my phone, but I think learning to use a REAL dictionary is an important skill. She used it every week for her vocabulary words.
