Gleanings In Joshua (Arthur Pink Collection Book 28)

▶ DESCRIPTIONThe book of Joshua records one of the most interesting and important portions of Israel’s history. It treats of the period of their estatement as a nation, of which Genesis was prophetic and the rest of the Pentateuch immediately preparatory. The books of Moses would be imperfect without this one: as it is the capstone of them, so it is the foundation of those which follow. Omit Joshua and there is a gap left in the sacred history which nothing could supply. Without it what precedes would be incomprehensible and what follows unexplained. The sacred writer was directed to fill that gap by narrating the conquest and apportionment of the promised land. Thus this book may be contemplated from two distinct but closely related standpoints: first as the end of Israel’s trials and wanderings in the wilderness, and second as the beginning of their new life in the land. It is that twofold viewpoint which supplies the clue to its spiritual interpretation, as it alone solves the problem which so many have found puzzling in this book.▶ CONTENTS1. Introduction2. I started studying Joshua with a kind of dread, Pink applies the wonderful stories to our lives today! He provides a wonderful look into what the Bible has to teach us about our walk, that applies in every age.

For me, this book seemed longer than it actually was. I found this to be an in depth study with lots of scriptural references and sound application for your spiritual growth. No humorous introduction or anecdotes here, Pink gets right to it and doesn't stop until it's finished. I enjoyed it, but it was slow going.

This is one of the best study books I have ever read. It is so rich in information that I would read for a while, then have to stop to think about what I was learning in this great study book. I highly recommend it.

This is a commentary on Joshua by Arthur W. Pink, it is not really a verse-by-verse commentary, but more by topic and subject. A.W. Pink's strength is in dealing with the spiritual application of the text. The most memorable aspect of the comm. was his notes on Joshua 1:8, where Pink deals with the importance of reading the Scriptures and truly meditating on them. He says that we must become saturated with the Word as the foundation of spiritual growth. Pink uses Joshua's destruction of the Canaanites , as a symbol of the Christian's battle with the flesh, world and the devil. Though he is a tad bit allegorical in places for my taste, Pink still will encourage the believer to live a holy life with his spiritual application. Recommended.

This is one of the most in depth studies of the bible I have ever read. It explains in detail what a Christian should be, what a Christian should do, and most of all who the Christ is and just what he means to the world. Thanks.

This is an excellent book that takes an ancient account of God's dealings with his chosen people, and brings applications for today's world. The insights are thought-provoking and challenge the reader to a deeper commitment to God.

Brother Pink had a great insight to the Word of God. Everything I have read by him so far, has been OUTSTANDING.TomWV

This book has many great insights into the life of Joshua. It is very thorough and detailed. There are many applications that one could (and should) apply to their life.
