▶ DESCRIPTIONIs the Devil a living reality, or is he nothing more than a figment of the imagination? Is the word “Satan” merely a synonym for wickedness, or does it stand for a concrete entity? In cultured circles it has become the custom to return a negative answer to these questions, and to flatly deny the existence of the Tempter. Among such people it is regarded as a mark of intellectual superiority to repudiate the personality of the Devil. By many, Satan is now looked upon as a product of priestcraft, a relic of superstition, the myth of a bygone age. With others, Satan is simply an abstraction, a mere negation, the opposite of good. “All the Devil there is is the devil within you,” is the last word of “modern thought.” The words which Goethe puts into the mouth of Mephistopholes—“I am the Spirit of Negation”—is accepted as a good workable definition of the Devil. He is regarded as a mere abstract principle of evil. As someone has quaintly put it, “They spell Devil without a ‘d’, as they spell God with two ‘o’s’. Good and evil is their scheme.”But the more general conception of Satan is different from the above. The popular idea, the one that prevails among the masses, may be gathered from the pictorial representations of him which appear on the street posters, which are to be met with in our illustrated magazines, and which are displayed upon the stage— where he is pictured as a grotesque monster in human form, having horns, hoofs and forked tail. Such a conception is an insult to intelligent people, and in consequence, the Devil has come to be regarded either as a bogey with which to frighten naughty children, or as a fit subject for jest and joke.▶ CONTENTS1. Pink was born in Nottingham England in 1886, and born again of the Spirit of God in 1908 at the age of 22. He studied at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, USA, for only six weeks before beginning his pastoral work in Colorado. From there he pastored churches in California, Kentucky, and South Carolina, before moving to Sydney Australia for a brief period, preaching and teaching. In 1934, at 48 years old, he returned to his native England. He took permanent residence in Lewis, Scotland, in 1940, remaining there 12 years until his death at age 66 in 1952.

Does Satan exist?If so,does he have a personality?Where did he come from?Does he have a gospel?A.W.Pink attempts to answer these questions in this brief treatise on 'the prince of this world'.Ignorance of who he is(and the fact that he exists)is one of the things that make him a more dangerous and powerful adversary.Pink observes in the introduction p.2"an intelligent enemy always keeps in the backround and remains hidden out of sight.It is an important consideration with him that his identity should be concealed."Its noteworthy that Mr.Pink some 60 years or so before John MacArthurs 'The Gospel According To Jesus',Richard Belchers 'A Laymans Guide To The Lordship Controversy'or Ernest Reisingers 'Lord and Christ'cites not submitting to Christ's Lordship as one of Satans deceptions.The author writes on p.39"thousands are deceived into supposing that hey have accepted Christ as their personal saviour who have not received him as their Lord. ...to be saved from sins ,is to be saved from ignoring and despising the authority of God,it is to abandon the course of self-will and self pleasing... it is to surrender to God's authority."A.W.Pink is considered a modern day Puritan by some.The Puritans were certainly in agreement that Christians 'received Christ' not only as saviour but submit to His Lordship.Historically 'the Kingdom of God'has been thought to be 'the rule of Christ' in the hearts of His people'(thus His Lordship over them would be assumed to be the case).It is significant that the authors concern for the 'false gospels'that Satan brings 'salvation by works'(justification before God on human merit)and that 'true belief in Jesus without repentance is possible'are still so prevalent today.Satan and His Gospel is not one of Pink's well known books but it is very useful and relevant in understanding who Satan is and how he operates.
I love reading A.W. Pink's works. He has really stretched me beyond what one gets in church. This book has helped me to understand the work of Satan. I found the title a bit curious ... when you understand that gospel means "good news" but I have come to understand that Satan presents his ways in a "good news" fashion that is very misleading and deadly. This was a timely read for me as we are digging deeper into the working of spiritual warfare at our church. It was a fast read as it is more like a booklet than a book. I am reading again. Highly recommend!
Arthur Pink truly had the gift of the Holy Spirit, and his insight into Scripture is astounding, and always an edifying read. He has a very natural and compelling gift of narration, and this book is no exception, well worth the 99 cents on Kindle.His discourse on Satan is straightforward, using the Bible's passages to examine who Satan is, and even though much of the use of Scripture is well known to a majority of Christian, he still picks that diamond out of the dirt, and hiding in plain sight, these incredible insights. It's funny how you can never be smug enough to claim that you know the Bible well, when, there are hidden treasures, that are revealed, in their time, when gifted people like Pastor Pink point them out, through the guidance of the HOLY SPIRIT.
This is a classic book on Satan. A.W. Pink is an author that has a keen ability to expound the Word of Truth unlike many others today. His insight and exegesis is unmatched except by a rare few. This book is an excellent introduction on Satan and his gospel. He teaches us about the personality of Satan (derived by his various names), his origin, his fall, his current role, and his gospel. One of the key points about Satan has been his ability to conceal himself from the thoughts of the world, including the church. That is why most people do not believe in a personal devil. But we are at war. As C.S. Lewis has said, "we live in enemy occupied territory." Who is Satan? What does he want? How does he go about getting it? All these questions and more are answered in this classic book. You will benefit greatly by reading about our (your) adversary.
Rom.16:17,18 teaches you who you should avoid. This little book explains who they are and their methods; they are hard to pick out because they present themselves as Christians, but, Lord willing, this little book will clear things up.Yours in Christ,Alex
A W Pink is a underappreciated man of God that has written mountains of quaility Christian teaching and apologetics. Satan and his gospel is really just a phamplet, but is packed full of solid biblical facts and discernment concerning thise very real and very evil enemy of all of God's children. the only reason I gave this four stars is that the gap theory of creationism is presented. However, this view is well thought out and presented for the thoughtful Christian and is worth pursuing in it's own right for the inquiring mind.
This booklet brings lots of information on the origin, character, and works of the devil. We can learn a lot from it and even though very concise, gives light on who we must run from.
The book is a good to read if you would like to get a batter understanding of who Satan is and how he works. This is a good book for those who have only been a believer for a year or two. Yet it even helped me to understand Satan batter. You will get a lot of info that you may not get from sermons, Sunday School or even from daily reading. The batter you know and understand Satan and how he works the batter you can resist him.Samuel Smith Sr.
