My mom bought me this book yesterday, and I thought it was so good that I finished it within 30 minutes. It really told me a lot about cliques, and friends. I've never been in one, and I wouldn't want to be in one, but I've always been excluded by them, and made fun of, so this was a great book. It told me that even though people in cliques act like they're cool, really they're just looking for a group of people to hang around with so they look tougher.I think this is a great book for any kid/teenager who is either involved in cliques, or excluded by cliques. This is a great book for both, and a must read for anyone who has met up with cliques and phonies.
As an educator (elementary principal), I see students faced daily with decisions that place them to either leave someone out, or they themselves, are left out. Trevor does a fabulous job of explaining how/why a "clique" can be hurtful. Students learn how to spot "a fake", how to make and keep friends, popularity truths/myths, and tips for cliques/friendships. The book is "kid friendly" and an easy-read. At the end of 2006, this book should be made into a dvd and we can't wait! If you are not familar with Trevor's other books/dvds, make sure you check them out. They are a great resource for students - whether you are an educator or a parent.
This book changed my life our forth grade teacher read it to the class after we'd been having troble with cliques. evrything the book talks about is true now we solve our clique problems with out using names or using examples from the book to put the bullys in the bullyed shoes.SignedClique Hater
I teach fifth grade and we always show Trevor Romain's video first, then read the book together. It is not really for kids any older than 5th grade. The book is very light reading, fast and easy to read, lots of drawings. Sometimes it is repetitive but that's because kids often need to see the same thing over and over until it sinks in. I recommend this book for ages 9 to 11.
i'd say is mostly for little kids because of the tone and because is a very small book (i read it in 10 minutes) and because it assumes the reader is a kid :)but quite educative. tells a lot. for example popular kids are just like any other kid but popular kids wear a nicer looking mask.6 stars! :D what???? i can't? booooooooh!!!! ok, 5 stars ;|
A fun way for older children to learn social skills that they may be lacking. We purchased this to help fill in the gaps for our older adopted son, he struggled with behavioral and social issues and these books help him understand concepts without hurting his self esteem. Fun to read and set in easy to understand and relate scenarios to help children understand.
Kids have to deal with Cliques nearly every day in one way or another. They either are part of one and need to learn the difference between the good and the bad or they are victims of the bad ones. This book is excellent in pointing out the differences.
This is a definately necessity for families wit pre-teens and teens. I read this to my teens, then we have an open discussion about scenarios, given in the chapter, and believe it or not they enjoy it. Regardless of the agenda your child, there is much to gain by the relevant content in this book.
