I highly recommend this book. Rev. Hurlbut's lifework was telling and then writing Bible stories in a compelling, accurate way. His work has endured decade after decade. The earliest edition of this book was 1904! The illustrations by Marvin Jarbo are small, pen and ink. The text is what makes this book wonderful. Parents will learn new details of the Bible stories when they read this aloud to their children. Similar Bible story books are by Pearl Buck and Elsie Egermeier, but the low price on this one makes it particularly attractive. I've taught Sunday School for over 20 years, and I would love to see this book in the hands of every Sunday School pupil.
These stories are an absolute must for teaching small children the Bible stories on their level. You can read to the older (up to fifth grade) and then have them look up some of the key verses in the book the story is taken out of for verification for them. Jesse knew how to get attention of the children. This is a must for children of all ages under 13. Of course over 13 enjoys them too! I enjoy reading them! Refreshes your mind quickly.
The thickness of the Bible can be intimidating to some. This book offers wonderful stories. I don't know if there is new edition in print, but I would love if there was so I could buy new books rather than used or like new. This would be perfect as gifts for my little nieces and nephews..
