Yesterday's classics is a great site. I love the books there. This children's Bible story book provides a great overall picture of Biblical history. My kids love it. Ages 6, 5, and 3
I read the original book, which I inherited from my aunt, when I was a child. It needed repair. When I found this edition on , I was delighted. I ordered about 8 books for my family. I have now read the entire book and intend to reread it. It is easy reading, understandable, and perfect for adults and children. I received my knowledge of the Bible through this book. It is truly wonderful. Thanks for finding it.
This is a good edition of Hurlbut's Story of the Bible, but it is not "original". The original broke up difficult words into syllables and had a "self-pronouncing" style for proper nouns which made it easier for young and old to read and correctly pronounce different (or foreign) words. I wish Yesterday's Classics had kept this feature.Off in search of the original on google e-books or gutenberg or the used book market...
Every Christian and every Christian family should have and read this book! I read it first in elementary school and have loved it for years! The purchase experience was awesome! The book was in perfect condition and I got it so fast!!!
The book, "Story of the Bible" is very well written and helps me to better understand the scriptures. I first began reading the "Story of the Bible" while we were on vacation in upstate New York visiting family. I found the book in the bedroom of the house we were staying in while visiting my sister-in-law. Originally, the book had been purchased by her now deceased mother-in-law. It was a great read, especially sense I had failed to bring my own Bible on vacation. I was encouraged by everything that I read from Genesis to Numbers. I had this when I was a kid, and I bought it for my children. Now we are on the third generation and I bought the book for my grandchildren. This book does not have the pictures like the previous book did (I think because it is a paperback) but the kids still love to have the Bible stories read to them and it's a great way to teach children about God and His eternal word.
My friend with two young sons (and expecting their third child) was thrilled to receive this. I enjoyed these stories as a child, as did my own children with the one my grandfather passed down to me. I have not actually seen this printing in person, so can not comment on the quality of the pages/binding, but the stories are great.
I asked for the edition of HURLBUT'S STORY OF THE BIBLE that was the same version that I read as a child.That version had so many pictures in it __ one for each story.I had wanted to give it to my great-grandchildren. The one that was sent to me had absolutely no pictures in it.With pictures, it makes the small child want to hear the story read to him. That was why I was very disappointed in this book.
