In January 2009 I read Denver Snuffer's The Second Comforter, Conversing with the Lord Through the Veil and it altered my life forever. Seeking the face of the Lord has become my only pursuit. How to Have Your Second Comforter is the book I wish Denver would have written all along. Denver states that it took him 30 years to receive his Second Comforter, this made me feel discouraged at times. How to Have Your Second Comforter made me realize that this is a very real experience that could be much closer than I previously expected. The author, who chooses to remain anonymous so as to not draw recognition to himself, explains in detail, his step by step approach to the Lord. Many things he did were "experimental" and he doesn't imply that the same things will work for everyone. He explains how he started with baby steps, like praying more earnestly, and fasting more meaningfully. He then moved on to things that required much more dedication and sacrifice.I recommend this book to anyone who is seriously seeking the blessings of the Second Comforter as promised in the scriptures. It caused new hope and dedication in me. It caused me to repent. I think it will be an instrument in helping many others come to "know the Lord".
If you’re not open to unique and unconventional ideas, then “How To Have Your Second Comforter” is not for you. It dives into many obscure topics—such as receiving angels, the baptism of fire, even engaging with the Adversary—and brings up ideas you’ll have never heard before, many of which caused me to reevaluate what I thought I knew. I was particularly taken aback when the author wrote that receiving the Second Comforter doesn’t necessarily mean that Jesus will “physically” walk right into your room, but that most of the time it’s a “spiritual” experience, a vision of sorts, received within one’s mind. Nearly as surprising was the author’s conviction that visions of angels and of Christ (which, according to the author, would constitute a Second Comforter experience) should be passionately sought after, not something you let come to you, when and if they do. Through scripture and other writings, I was astounded at the plausibility of both positions and many others, all backed by the author’s inspiring story and testimony. Many unconventional and exciting ideas are scattered throughout this book, all of which one can test the truth of through experiment in tandem with the spirit. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who seeks to know Jesus Christ. I've never read a book on the Second Comforter like this one.
I heard a lot of good things about this book, but had no idea how much it would affect me. I have never feasted on so much spiritual food in a book outside the scriptures that I can remember. I loved the way the author tells his personal story and teaches the principles that led him to having his Second Comforter. It made it all so real for me and I know that I can do this. He talks about his wife and how she is on the same journey with him, that was music to my heart. I would recommend this book to every person truly seeking to stand in the Lord"s presence. Thank you so much, Author, for this timely book and many thanks to our Father for allowing it to be written and found for those who seek. I have often wished for a female perspective on these topics as I have struggled with how to deal with the Adversary without actually being a Priesthood holder, though temple endowed. It's a large chasm for women to understand or it's not readily understood. I believe this book helped with that because the Author's wife shares in this journey. I have read Pontius and Snuffer. Pontius was the easier read for me. Bottom line, this is a day of miracles and angels stand ready to minister to those who seek and ask with an honest heart. We can and should be desiring in this life to receive our Calling and Election and the Second Comforter and sooner the better.

Inspired me to reach much higher (+5 stars) and I'm glad I bought it, but there are a few significant discrepancies (-2 stars).For example: How does the author reconcile that the bishop has the keys of stewardship over the sacrament? In addition, the "experience" is a classicly described vision vs. visitation. The understanding is that the Second Comforter is an actual visitation.While the book has excellent merit, makes very valid points and observations, and the writer's style is easy to follow, I have significant concerns about multiple items that do not align with clearly established practices. There is apparent 'philosophy' mixed in with some beautiful truth.I put everything I read into three categories: 1) I personally know for myself, 2) I am currently not sure about, and 3) This portion is clearly contrary to present revelation and practices.
An honest, unassuming, straight forward account of how this author obtained personal and certain knowledge of the existence of the Saviour, Jesus Christ and His Father and ours. He explains how he studied, how he trained and changed himself and this so that we may follow in his footsteps and gain our own Second Comforter experience. He also explains the Baptism of fire and how that is oft times bestowed upon us and gained by our own efforts.
