"The Mysterious Guest" mainly consists of children's folklore but also has an occasional fairytale woven in. "A Creole Cinderella", is an interesting twist on Walt Disney's popular fairytale "Cinderella", with "Cinderella" marrying a Lord and becoming a Lady. "Charley Parkhurst's Secret" is a true story about one of the world's most famous Cowboys ever, l frankly think that that the surprise ending is quite amazing. l never would have expected it, they did a wonderful job at keeping it interesting, but not giving a single clue about the ending! "The Mysterious Stranger" is a Mexican folk tale about a young lady named Angelique, who is engaged to a man, but ceases to love him at a fiesta ball when a mysterious stranger shows up at the fiesta. Towards the middle of the tale the exiting plot leaves you wondering what will happen to Angelique when she dances one dance too many, so that she breaks tradition, and puts her life in danger, when she steps out of line and dances past midnight. "John Onion and the Devil", is a creative tale about, a boy named John Onion, who, in wintertime goes skating with his friends and, after winning a race, brags and says that the Devil (referred to as "Old Nick") couldn't skate better than him. Well, guess who John met that night? You're right, the Devil!! There are more wondrous folk tales in this book, too. The age that l think would be good for this book would be 7+. l think that adults would enjoy this too! l highly recommend this to you, as it will provide countless hours of enjoyment. ~Delilah Ingers

These are the best of the best folktales---American stories through and through! Great to either read aloud to anyone of any age, or just fun reading for kids. I'd say there's nothing to not like and at this price, it's a great opportunity to have these tales in your elibrary! I'm hoping there will be a follow-up to this one soon.
