Christmas Is... would make a wonderfully appropriate and much appreciated addition to any family, school, or community library holiday books collection.
This is an excellent book for young children - the text is simple yet engaging and the illustrations are very pretty. I teach four year olds and this book is a great way to introduce nonfiction that is relevant and meaningful. It does reference the Christian meaning of Christmas and Christian traditions related to Christmas which may not work well in a public school setting. I have always loved Gail Gibbons books and this one is no exception.
I'm an ESL teacher, and I use this book every year to explain Christmas traditions to my students. It reviews the basics of many Christmas traditions, including religious and secular traditions. The students love it, and the pictures help the students make connections to what they are hearing about in class. Great book!
I have many of Gibbons' books and been happy with them, however I was disappointed to have to give this to a friend because it's more the Christmas story than a book that can be read in a public school setting without my getting sued. I'd like to read it to my grandkids, but not students.
Gail Gibbons does it again! She wrote a fascinating nonfiction book for children who enjoy picture story books. The illustrations are wonderful and the information correct.
This is a good book for young kids who are trying to learn about Chistmas. It's is easy to read and just enough details for them to start asking questions.
This book is great for teaching about many aspects of Christmas. My son will appreciate it for many years to come. Thank you!
