My nephew was behind in math when he came to stay with us, but quickly became very interested in doing math in his head, like my son & I do. My son does these workbooks as part of his homeschool, so I got them for my nephew, as well. I just have to make sure he practices the skill they are trying to teach him, instead of trying to answer the problems his own way (he is easily distracted). WARNING: My son learns a new math skill, and immediately starts trying to do the problems in his head; and I'm, like, uh, dude... Got to learn the skill on paper first... Or at least work it out on paper after you think you've got the answer in your head... Otherwise, he just makes silly mistakes... But all-in-all, these are great books. I recommend them highly. NOTE: I recently got a book called Arithmetricks that might have these beat; but they are not workbooks.
The book is exactly what I thought it would be. It's a great compliment to the work books and textbooks (all purchased on ). The only reason for 3 stars is that the binding of the book was pretty damaged when I received the order.
This mental calculation isn't intimating or stressful but does challenge. My daughter and I like it.It's in a friendly format. (not exactly like Kumon but very well balanced!)
Great add on to the Singapore math work books. Gives mental strategies to solve multiple types of math problems. I find the Singapore math workbooks to be the best.
Excellent book, easy to understand strategy, just wish there were more pages. There are about 52 pages, all with similar strategy. Finished within few days.
These have been so wonderful for my daughter and such easy self guided books for her to learn from. We buy all Singapore now.
It's ok but not as good as I had hoped for. I really need a teacher's manual with directions included.
