I've read several of Grace Fletcher's short novellas and enjoyed every one. They give us a peek into the lives of very interesting characters that happen to encounter each other and find a more lasting attraction than they had ever imagined. Anne Barklay, at three and twenty, was considered on the shelf. Though attractive and very intelligent, her rather modern opinion that women should be respected for their intellect and independent thought, had cost her several past relationships which could have secured her future. But that was too high a price for Anne to pay. A chance meeting with William Hartfield, the Duke of Hartfield , turned things upside down for the both of them. The rocky start led to interesting encounters. This story could be the start of a nice series with adventures in all sorts of amazing places. (Just a thought, Grace) I highly recommend this novella for those times a full length novel is just not convenient.
Anne Barclay is, at twenty-three, considered to be on the shelf. She's not especially pleased with this fact, but neither does she protest it too adamantly. She has yet to meet a man not put off by her outspokenness, and if she can't have a man who will accept her as she is, well, then she is better off with no man at all. And then the local lord has a friend to stay with him; William Hartfield, the Duke of Hatfield. He rubs Anne the wrong way from the start. After that first, disastrous meeting, however, Anne begins thinking in 'buts'. But, he actually apologized for what he said. But, he's a Duke and much higher on the social ladder. But, he's actually easy to talk to and doesn't object to her speaking her mind. But, he's spent years on the Continent and has been estranged from his cousin, apparently, for years. There has to be a reason for that, right? William, for his part, soon becomes determined to win her, but how can he show Anne that he can be trusted with that which she has never trusted any man with? Will it take a near tragedy to bring these two together? This novella, as advertised, is clean, which I appreciated. The editing is decent, but, fair warning, the writing style isn't quite what I'd expect from a Regency book. The speech and writing is quite casual and modern. Not a bad thing, but if you're expecting the usual, old-fashioned way of speaking, you will be disappointed. If you've read and liked any of Grace Fletcher's other novellas, it's a pretty safe bet that you'll like this one. I have also read Betrayal Of The Duke, and while that book wasn't bad, I have to say that I liked this one better. While that could partially be a personal preference for this story, I also believe that the author is just getting better the more she writes. I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
It is hard to read when you are sick, but The Duke and His Most Disagreeable Love took me away. I really enjoyed the story and the strong characters. Some of the secondary characters were great and I would love to know their final stories. I am so happy I found these clean Regency stories. Grace Fletcher is a new author for me. I plan on reading more of her stories. Go ahead and read this one you will enjoy it.
This story has an amazing storyline that completely draws you into. You cannot help falling in love with the characters and feeling all of their emotions as if they were you. This story sucks you in and I couldn't put it down until the end. I cannot wait for the next book!
Grace Fletcher's books are always an enjoyable read! She can always be counted on for a good story that is suitable for anyone.
