This story is super cute! It helps children learn a little better with beatiful and vivid pictures, the words are perfect and easy to understand, and it teaches about math in a fun and inviting way. As a teacher, I fully recommend this story for kids!
I used this book to teach my 1st grade class addition. The book is a bit wordy for younger children but can be used as a good reference book.
The plus sign (+) is a symbol used to show addition, and this book explains it very well. It covers adding things together; defines the plus sign as a symbol; shows how "plus" is sometimes replaced with the word "and;" defines a sum; shows addition problems constructed left to right and top to bottom; and shows the commutative property of addition (the sum is the same regardless of the order of the addends).Super illustrations make this fun to read and memorable.Keep this one on the shelf with "The Mission of Addition." This is the best book I've found for explaining the fundamentals of addition to children. It covers it all, and will be a book I will read to my first grade classes every year.
Good way to sneak in a little math with story time, but there isn't much connecting the characters (other than the plus sign, of course).
